I've had a bird coming to feed for the last week or so but I have been unable to get a picture of it. It's very skittish and even the juncos seem to scare it away. I was finally able to get a picture of it today. I believe it's a western meadowlark, Oregon's state bird.

Dale, I think you have a Varied Thrush visiting you. An absolutely beautiful bird.

Whatever this skittish bird is, it is becoming less skittish. This morning he was hanging around outside waiting for me to feed them. Here are some better pictures of him maybe someone can identify him.

I like to go out in the morning and sit out on the deck, feed the birds, read my Bible, pray and watch the birds. This morning as I was sitting there, next to the house to escape the snowflakes, a hummingbird that I have not been able to get a good picture of, flew right in front of me and hovered about 3 ft from my face. He was there for four or five seconds before he left and flitted off to the hummingbird feeder. I got a good look at him, but sadly no picture. He had a redhead and a red throat. It was a beautiful bird! I have never had a hummingbird get that close to me before, and just hover there. It was almost like he was saying thank you for the hummingbird feeder. It was a very cool experience! I wish I had a picture of him.

Walking with my son in Arlington we ran across these two Bard owls, one with a crayfish in its mouth. Very exciting!

Some fine looking owls these things have reappeared after being absent since October last.

Wow! That's a mighty fine gobbler in your pictures!
Y'all must not have many turkey hunters around the place.
Do the hens ever bring the little ones up in the yard?

He is a fine one fur sur, my 8 year ole next door neighbor got his first gobbler last week, also got his first horny head this past winter. His dad is a big time trophy deer hunter. He gives the meat to charity food banks. There are quite a few turkey hunters in this area and yes the babies come with momma. You can probably see some in my post from last year, we had 3 for awhile then one disappeared the others came till around October they were almost a big as the momma by then.
On a side note I saw my first redneck hummer at the feeder this morning.

Have had lots of visitors to my feeder the past 2 warm days. My normal year round sparrows, chickadees, nuthatches, juncos, downy woodpeckers and new spring arrivals robins, house finches, brown head cowbird, goldfinch and what I think are yellow throated warblers. But if so, they are about 300 miles northwest of their normal range. But with strong southerly winds for several days I suppose that is possible.
Bad pictures thru very dirty window with cellphone from 10 ft away. The female showed up too. They were very hungry.

We have large colonies of pelicans here in SE-NC and they are quite photogenic.

Oh they’re a blast to watch, especially when they cruise at 6” off the water at Mach 1 - where we live is in a big flyway for numerous species - never leaves you wanting more - a birders paradise for sure.

Thanks again for the knife. That bird is a varied thrush, we have them here, in the yard regularly. Like robbins, they are not bothered by me if I'm in the yard. Great pics.
