Knife restoration w/ Bar Keepers Friend
Been using this method for a while....thought I'd share my tools for bringing back to usable.
I don't have any before photos but the last ones are the finished pile...
Used a stout scrub brush, Bar Keepers Friend, sanding sponge, water and elbow grease

Re: Knife restoration w/ Bar Keepers Friend
Been using that on my stainless steel sink for years. Never occurred to me to use it on a knife blade. Thanks Scott!!

Thanks for the post. I did not find it very useful one time I used it but
maybe my elbow was weak. Will try again.
Good point on those pivots.

Re: Knife restoration w/ Bar Keepers Friend
I am NOT trying to dissuade you from using Barkeepers Friend, but will caution you to go the extra mile in cleaning all of it off afterward.
Some of our technicians at work would use it to clean Vault Doors. If they did not clean off all of the Barkeepers Friend completely, it would cause those spots to rust. And with a 3-ton steel door, it is a LOT of hard work to clean off rust by hand! You cannot argue that the product cleans metal beautifully, but you have to clean it off assiduously. I only use oil-based cleaners on steel, but that is me.
So I recommend flushing the knife repeatedly with water, blowing out with compressed air, WD-40, etc.
You will be grateful later that you did.
And, beautiful knives! You did a great job on 'em.

Re: Knife restoration w/ Bar Keepers Friend
If you use it, you can't help but do that.
I did it to all knives shown, but none have issues at this point.
Does something happen down the line?

Re: Knife restoration w/ Bar Keepers Friend
It will increase wear and friction in the pivots and can induce rust.
