Stupid AI knife descriptions

Post by Sharpnshinyknives »

Saw this knife description and thought it funny with how stupid it is. I can tell it’s an AI description by the words used, since every AI knife description on eBay has the same words, but this one was really out there.

“ This J.A. Henckels pocketknife is a must-have for any collector or outdoor enthusiast. With its red bone handle and more than four blades, this knife is both stylish and functional. The Canoe model is perfect for those who enjoy paddling and the ambidextrous dexterity allows for use on both sides. This original piece is a factory manufactured modern folding knife, making it a high-quality addition to any collection. I listed this knife as used (it has never been used), only because I do not have its box. It has spent the entirety of its life in my knife roll.”

I never knew that a canoe knife could be used for “paddling”.
I’m sure the last two sentences were tacked on to the AI description.

Post any of these stupid knife descriptions that you find in this thread.

::facepalm::

Ridiculous! But I’m dreading the day when we can’t tell it was written by AI.

I like the "more than 4 blades", if it has 5 why not say 5?

That fits. Every time she remarks off the cuff she says a lot of words that mean nothing.

If I bought every knife that is a “ must have for the collector or outdoor enthusiast”, I would have been broke along time ago trying to get every “must have”.

I’ve noticed that the AI descriptions come directly from the drop down menu on eBay when you list a knife starting with brand, original, slipjoint, liner lock, blade range, number of blades, etc, etc. They are just putting together a word salad from that menu that means nothing to a collector.

I’m sure you could Tim, if it has “ambidextrous dexterity” allowing for use on both sides. What a cockamamie phrase that is.

I know AI sucks.
I just bought a lot off a guy on ebay using AI and contacted him stating that one knife had a broken blade so it can't possibly be in good working condition...

This... pocketknife is a must-have for any collector or outdoor enthusiast.

They all have the same wording, and it's less than worthless. It's no better than the 'see pictures for description' that we've seen for years. The picture could be a moon rock, or bigfoot, there's no way to know.

There are several listings identical Buck 119s at an absurdly low price from Sri Lanka, the description says it all:

id="desc_ifr" title="Seller's description of item" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-popups allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox allow-same-origin" height="279px" width="100%" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0" src="https://vi.vipr.ebaydesc.com/itmdesc/15 ... cureDesc=1" style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border-width: 0px; border-style: initial;">

I've noticed the same thing in ads for black powder guns on auctions. Meaningless jabber lifted from a catalog. No real information about the condition of THIS item.

Please help clarify this for a member who is not a canoe collector.

Would I sit in my fiberglass canoe and perform the J stroke with this J.A. Henckles Canoe or do I sit in the blade well of this J.A. Henckles Canoe and J stroke with my wood paddles? I can't decide how high to bid without clarity.

I particularly like it when AI uses eBay's description metrics. "Blade length is between 2.76 and 4 inches", that's always such a help when evaluating a knife.

What'd the knife actually look like? ::hmm::

It looked exactly like this one I had in my store. These are beautiful knives. But I can’t see how you can paddle with one.

Didn’t know “no box” was considered a “feature!” :lol: From Ebay, of course….

Apparently AI isn’t learning a thing from its mistakes. I think we can drop the word “intelligence” from AI and replace it with “ignorance”. Artificial Ignorance sounds about right.

Just like a doctor that finishes last in his class and passed the boards by 1 point, they are still called doctor. AI engines are the same, some are great at adaptive learning and others finished last in their AI class.
