Cars, trucks, rat rods and hot rods

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

My son and I did a Scavenger hunt as part of the events going on for the Pgh Vintage GP. 87 cars took part for a beautiful 50 mile ride. Great time and BBQ at the end.
Boji. You would have enjoyed it as the Mini-Cooper and Subaru were the featured cars.

Yes, I would have. Got to get my Mini cleaned up for a little neighborhood cruse in with some great live music. It is Thursday.
Also spied another of my favorite foreign sports cars in your pictures, either a MG Midget or an AH Sprite. late 60's to early 70's.
Had '65 Sprite years ago, currently have a '74 Midget that is not running.

Back in the late 60โ€™s when I had my Sprite I worked in a 5 gal office, my best friend then had an MGB and another gal could borrow her boyfriendโ€™s BugEye Sprite. 3 out of 5, what are the odds of that!! Good times for sure.

Guys, please, what would you say is the difference between a "car show" and a "cruise in"? Had an issue at the Cruise In last night, will explain later.

I would define a car show as an event where a fee is charged to enter; cars are cla
ssed and compete for trophies or prizes. There are also prizes awarded for categories such as best paint; best engine, best interior, etc.. A cruise in is usually an informal gathering of cass, bikes, trucks. There is rarely an admission charge; there are no prizes or trophies. The origimal concept of a cruise was to get together to drive to a particular destination; the idea being to,'' cruise '' with your friends in your hot rod or custom or sports car. It has degenerated into sitting around in lounge chairs telling war stories. JMHO,

I agree I'll just add this, we have several cruise ins around this area, one is at a restaurant we frequent
Every 1st Monday of the month, I believe, you'll see everything from old classics, hot rods and customs to new trucks, Mustangs and Corvettes, most of the trucks are jacked up or lowered.with custom wheels but some of the Mustangs and Vettes and even one GTR I've seen are bone stock. Just my 2 cents . ::handshake::

I agree 100%. It was advertised as a Cruise IN, bring your car, bike, truck, rat rod. So I pulled into the parking lot and see a spot between another Mini Cooper and a custom hot rod, pull in and here comes Bubba, "You can't park there!" Me, "why not, there's plenty of room on both sides", "You can't park there, this is a CAR SHOW, go park back there" Back and forth a couple of times, Bubba tells me the custom hot rod is his and worth a LOT of money(yes, it was nice) I give up having a discussion with him and pull out of the spot before my Irish temper goes off, drive around past the other cars and such. Circled round the lot and the spot was still there and Bubba wasn't so I parked.
IMG_8245.jpg

Went inside where the concert would be starting, wondered around hoping I'd see somebody I knew with an extra chair at their table, no luck, standing at the end of the bar and a gentleman at a close table motioned to me and asked if I was alone, yes, join us. He had seen/heard the previous stuff. Talked cars with him and antiques & jewelry with his wife and daughter. And front row for the band!
IMG_8249.jpg
When the band took a break I went back out to the parking lot and what do I see? An elderly couple getting into the custom rod and Bubba watching. Wasn't even his car! He got into a stock basic 80's Chevy pickup which he had parked in the same row of the "car show". Car people are nice but guess there's one in every crowd.

Car show. Judged.
Cruz. Enjoy each otherโ€™s cars.
But sometimes there is a blur line. ๐Ÿคจ
Have been at Cruzโ€™s where spectators will pick a car.

Iโ€™m just one state over from you and they are all over the place around here. Iโ€™d say about 40% of bikes have ape hangers around here regardless of the make.

Most if them are well done but some of those guys look they are almost coming off of the seat just to reach the handgrips.

I have a good friend who used to let me take short rides on his bike with ape hangers. Usually after he did some kind of performance upgrade. He wanted me to experience the difference that the upgrade made in case I wanted to consider it for my own bike. His ape hangers were pretty high but still comfortable and safe.
