YOUR USER NAME

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

A lot of you guys have read me saying how computer illiterate I am, but back when I was REALLY PC illiterate I mentioned to a buddy that I wanted to start getting involved with computers so how do I get an email address. Without taking a breath he said, "madmarcov", how's that sound?
When I asked him why he suggested that name he replied, "Well, you think like a madman, your first name is Marc, (it's actually Mark but he thought it was with a "c"), and the "v" for your last name, Vine." I liked how it rolled off my tongue so he registered it for me, which to this day I don't know who or how he registered it at/with. He had already finished registering it before I noticed the "c", so I just left it and have used it ever since.
When I came to AAPK and needed a username the easiest thing was to drop the "v" from the end and go with Madmarco, which I obviously did, but if I wanted to be technically correct it would be MadMarko!

This is a great thread, I've really enjoyed reading the stories, they make me feel I know you a little better! ::handshake::

I believe I've told this story before here but here it is (possibly again). Back in the '70s and '80s I was into CB radio, had a lot of fun with it. I'm Tall, have big feet and lots of hair so my CB handle progressed through Lumber Jack, Tree Top, Red Beard, to Bigfoot. That one seemed to stick and even became a nickname away from CB use. Then as time passed there seemed to be way too many people in the CB community using Bigfoot as a handle, it got popular and confusing. That's when a friend suggested I change it to Sasquatch which wasn't being used so widely on the CB. About that time I started getting into computers and was using Sasquatch as a name for my different accounts as well. Well, when you get into the internet you're dealing with a world wide population and it wasn't long before I started being told the the name Sasquatch was already taken when creating new accounts. That's when I got the bright idea of dropping the "T" and using "Sasquach" to differentiate me from all other Sasquatches. It worked. I haven't seen anyone else spelling it that way for almost 30 years now. As a side note, over the years I discovered that while the spelling SASQUATCH is most common and usually considered the correct spelling several sources list SASQUACH as an alternate and acceptable spelling. So there you have it, how my CB handle/screen name evolved.

PS. If you run into any "liberal/progressive" Sasquatches who are easily offended by names like Skunk Ape, Yeti, Bigfoot, etc, the politically correct term is Previously Undiscovered North American Primate. (PUNAP) ::rotflol::

I don't know if there is a minimum size to qualify. There might be pigmy bigfoots out there somewhere. I wear 13 EEE so I guess that must be in the qualifying range.

I have been here for a while, and a lot of you know a little about my username. Here is, as Paul Harvey used to say, the “rest of the story”. When I first started getting into computers I “discovered” eBay. I was in a “guitar phase” and eBay seemed to be a virtual “honey hole”. I registered for an account as “gtrclktr” (guitar collector) and I have continued to use that name, with some variations, for many years now.The “351” I added on AAPK is the month and date of my birth. There have been some interesting interpretations of that name across the old interwebs. Possibly the most interesting was “Gator Licker”. After seeing that interpretation, I found a cartoon alligator playing guitar, I used that as my icon for a while. So there it is, probably TMI. To paraphrase Walter Harvey ( Garry Marshall in “A League of Their Own”) I have said enough to know that I have said too much.

😂 I have never licked a gator nor a window but have been accused of both. I’m actually about 2 hours north of “The Sunshine State”, as the Airbus flies.

User Name,
Post #100 for me. That’s more interesting than the name story.
LKSKNIVES, dad’s full initial’s (Larry Kent S) and a lot of his close friends called him LK. Definitely his Knives. I’m am the curator/salesman of his stuff. Knives were first but some canes, lighters fishing stuff and other items.
My two brothers and sister do not want any of the stuff so I’m working on it and they are getting checks in the mail. That being said to bad I waited so long.
Thank you all I’m enjoying.

My Dad would say he was a collector of all things. The other thing he said about it was that the knives and stuff is only worth what someone was willing to pay for it.
The watches, canes and rulers are gone.
Lots of knives left both fixed blades and pocket. Some other odds and ends that he liked so he bought them.

I collect Jack Knife Ben knives from Union Stock Yards Chicago and any thing that has name on it. So I scrunch the three words together. Has worked pretty good.

My forum name, PringleTree, is a homage to my 6x great grandfather, Samuel Pringle (1728-1830), and his brother John. They were members of militia serving with British forces during the French and Indian War. Conditions at Fort Pitt were such that in 1761 the brothers deserted and eventually made their way into the wilderness of what is now the Buckhannon River Valley (Upshur County) in West Virginia. Once there, they lived in a giant hollow sycamore tree for over two years. Samuel served in the Virginia Militia during during the Revolutionary War, attaining the rank of captain.

I am a 60 year old Trekkie. I have been watching the original Star Trek since about 1970. I can't remember seeing it when it was released, but started watching it very early in my life. I still watch it to this day almost every day. I have all of the episodes on my DVR and I call up at least one per day and sometimes more than that. The pic is my office at work. I get called a nerd, but I have been called worse so it doesn't really bother me.

NCC-1701 is the number on the Enterprise. It was the first of the Constitution class starships hence the 01.
