On my day trip up to Bowie, TX today I found 3 knives and bought 2.
The first one was on the side of HWY 81 going into town....It wouldn't fit in the car.
The next one was a 100 year commemorative lockback for Red Man chewing tobacco 1904 - 2004. It's in GOOD condition and I got it for $10.
The next one is a Rough Rider Trapper that appears to have been customized with a "feather" shield and file work on the springs. It came in a very heavy display box with the carving of the same feather on the lid. I have found some references to Brian Yellowhorse on the RR knives such as this one but I can't say with any certainty he had anything to do with this one. I paid $30.00 for it. If anyone can further educate me on the lockback and the RR I would greatly appreciate it.

That was a most interesting trip you had, David, and what a nice score you made.
If you REALLY want the big bowie, simply come back when it's dark and strap it to the roof of your car, just be careful turning corners so you don't skewer some poor unexpecting pedestrian. I'd be happy to help you lift it.
My attention peaked when I read "Red Man", cuz I wore a R/M tobacco Indian Chief belt-buckle with my jeans for many years, but I've never seen a R/M knife, very nice.
Regarding your new RR, I get a "Yellowstone" vibe myself, but that's all I know. The previous owner must have treasured the knife, cuz the box looks like heavy stone so he must have wanted to protect it. Originally I thought the feather was a fossil, man are my eyes getting bad.
Sorry I couldn't further your education any, buddy.
