Fake Case Tested Congress

Post by Mumbleypeg »

Hope no one here (or anywhere else for that matter) bites on this horrible fake. https://www.ebay.com/itm/126528569825?

Excellent example of shaved and re-stamped tangs. The jigging, handle material, lined bolsters, etc are all “not Case”. I don’t know why the goofball crooks who make these think it’s good to stamp all the blades. Maybe they just want to maximize their investment in their fake stamp. Case rarely stamped all the blades and if they did, the stamps were typically different on each blade. If you see a Tested knife having the same stamp on all blades, be VERY skeptical. The Congress pattern has two master blades so both will be stamped. The secondaries typically won’t have the same stamp, if they’re stamped at all.

I think this one started life as a Böker, which is a pretty nice knife. Too bad some crook tried to make it look like an old Case Tested.

I saw that fake on eBay. Really bad fake. Stamps are terrible. I would like to point out that while the great majority of Case Tested Congress 88 patterns are only stamped on the two main blades that in the majority of Case Tested 5488s, all blades are stamped. Not like the ones of the OP, of course.

I am really appreciating the knife knowledge shared here. I probably would not have been interested in this knife, but I also would not have immediately pegged it as a fake. The last one I thought was a fake turned out to be very real.

Geez, the least they could have done is finish the threading on the bolster where the new pins were installed... ::facepalm::

I've seen that "Case Tested" stamp before, heavier, deeper lines than an original, obviously cold-struck, odd shape at the top of the C, all blades stamped, Case never used that bone pattern, bolsters are wrong wrong WRONG!
