Patch material

Post by miked32 »

I’ve got an old knife with a small piece missing at each center pin. It is stag. Just curious as to what the hardest glue/epoxy or other material you might recommend that could be colored. Not trying to trick someone. Nice old packer knife. Just needs a little help.

I use AcraGlass.
But I do have trouble matching the colors.
Search AcraGlass and you will find posts explaining how it's done.

I have used a couple or three different clear epoxies with no problems. Even the Gorilla Glue type that comes in the double syringes - it is inexpensive and locally available.
I prefer powdered pigments over liquid pigments.
I have sanded Walnut wood for dark brown pigment, and used Cinnamon (from my wife's spice rack) for reddish-brown.
I am in the middle of editing a video showing how to do it, if you can wait until this weekend. I should have it ready to post by then. Here is a picture of this patch:

You made it look easy, but I know it's not. Thank you for the video lesson.

Thank you for saying that Jeepergeo, but this was pretty much that easy. I edited it for time, but little else.
This is only the third patch that I have done, so I consider it to be a good beginner level project.
