Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
I had some pieces of firewood where the core of the tree had rotted out leaving them with a sort of a canoe shape. So I took off some of the rough spots & placed two of them together forming an even larger "canoe" shape to make an open canoe shaped bird house or nesting place out of them. Mounted it in the carport so I now have 4 different variations of bird houses. One in each corner of the carport. Now to hope for a guest or two next spring.

The city of St. Louis, Missouri from a hilltop in Edwardsville, Illinois.
You kind of had to be there but it looked pretty cool in person.

Me too, Jerry. It was a hoot. I am normally a little claustrophobic but I really enjoyed the ride.jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 1:00 pmDid you go up in the Arch? Very nice, John! My only balloon ride was at sunrise out around Taos, quite scenic as well, but not so dramatic as your pic.
That sounds like something that your governor would have already passed!

I did not go up the other day when I took that picture but I did sometime in the 1990’s. Those little elevators are really cool. Only big enough to sit down in as I remember it. And the top of the Arch was just like you said. OUTSTANDING!jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 1:00 pmDid you go up in the Arch? We were there a bunch of years ago and went up in the Arch. The view in that picture fascinated me because as you already know, Illinois is nothing but flatland mostly. The Arch can be seen from lots of places but it’s pretty rare to be high enough up to see the whole city from a distance like that.
Here is the other picture I took that is not zoomed in on. This looks more like what I actually saw from that hilltop.

Yes, unless you are in the NW corner, or Southern portion. When I was in grade school I really hadn't been North. We were learning everything related to our state, I thought that it was odd because Illinois was called the Prairie State, and in my experience it wasn't flat.Railsplitter wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 7:37 pmThe view in that picture fascinated me because as you already know, Illinois is nothing but flatland mostly.
There are a few good views of St Louis coming over from the Illinois side, and it never gets old. It reminds me a lot of the view of Cincinnati coming in from the Kentucky side, all of a sudden, it's right there!

thanks Ike - I wish the postcard business was still booming cuz I’d have the sunrise market captured.

Thanks for the outstanding photos, Tom. You are indeed blessed with a great variety of natural habitats. These must provide a wonderful variety of birds and other creatures.

We’ve got a little interest in Caterpillar up here . Maybe because it’s the birth place of the” Cat “.
Here’s a little info regarding that and our local Eagle from the civil war.
