What oil do you use?
What oil do you use?
Just curious! I know for the most part pill is pretty much oil and all the big names get the job done. I like zero friction (though it is a very light oil) most reputable gun oils, break free, etc. But I just wanted to see what the old knife pros here rely on most.

I use Quick Release. It does the job best of any I have tried and to the friendly forum.

There are several good lubes. Most gun oils are good. I agree Quick Release is excellent - I use it. If you are in a dirty, dusty environment use Tuf-Glide (it was developed for use in military firearms, in dusty environments like Iraq). I use it also.
Any lube is better than no lube! The cardinal sin is using too much, which captures and holds dirt in the joint - exactly what you do NOT want.

I like Rem-Oil I use it on my knives and guns. I have wipes, spray and oil. I also use Singer Sewing Machine Oil. Its a very light, non staining, penetrating oil, and works well on slow moving blades at pivot pin area.

When I need a good oil, Quick Release is my preferred oil.
For my EDC knives, I use mineral oil. It is NOT a great knife lubricant, as it evaporates away and needs to be reapplied often.
But it is easy on the pockets if it seeps, is odorless and tasteless - and as a card-carrying Southern redneck I cut my food with my pocketknife!

I mostly use regular old 3in1 which is 10 weight (sewing) machine oil. I've used it for about 50 years on my knives and guns. I've never hade any problem with it.
There is also "3in1 Motor oil" which is 20 weight non detergent motor oil. I have found this to be too heavy for knives and guns.
Lately I have been using Mobil1 0w-16 full synthetic. It Cleans, Lubricates, and Protects. A quart will cost you $4 at Walmart and last the rest of your life.

Re: What oil do you use?
I have used these oils and I don't know that I will ever need another bottle of anything.
I don't know how to tell the difference in the articulation of a pocket knife blade to make a choice.
They all seem to work, expensively. My suggestion would be 3 in 1 oil.
Pin oil containers are a must.
