Official BSA Scout Knives For Sale
Official BSA Scout Knives For Sale
I was so successful selling Scout knives recently that I've been consigned about 50 BSA knives to sell. They range from vintage to modern, most in their original boxes including a Western/Plumb fixed-blade hand-axe sheathed combination set. The inventory also includes an Ulster Sea Scout knife, the elusive Remington black stag handled knife, and the not-so-common 2-blade LF&C knife. The are all on eBay and can be found at: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fss=1& ... icSeller=1
Thanks for taking a look. After they've soaked in the Bay for a moment they'll most likely make their way to my AAPK store, probable after Thanksgiving.

Something like this ?
and in case you are wondering, the upsidedown emblem and bail end is correct, the (original) 1911-12 BSA handbook ad got it wrong

Nice early collection .
The ad is good , I have seen enough of the first version 4 blade with the extra large bail on the main blade side to believe they made a few of them that way .
I have one in my collection .

I'd be curious on this. I did quite a lot of research and leaned on some expert videos and docs to confirm the configuration of the very 1st edition BSA pocket, and from all I found the emblem and bail config I show is correct. I would imagine anything else is a later edition, even if later may have been weeks or months. But I also know there is room for error here, still I wouldn't imagine two versions of the very 1st edition.
always curious

Re: Official BSA Scout Knives For Sale
There isn’t much out there on the first version or on the internet ,
I’ve been collecting official scout knives for over 30 years and seen a lot of strange official scouts , I eat breath and sleep over them lol , definitely an obsession .
I believe the first batch that came out were with the bail on the master end and they quickly realized it wasn’t a good idea and switched to the conventional way , this is just my theory .
I have owned 3 legit ones , and have one rough example still .
You definitely have to be open minded .
I will post a picture when time allows .

Re: Official BSA Scout Knives For Sale
The New York Knife Company began producing the only official Boy Scout knife in 1911,a monopoly the company held until 1922. By 1913 the number of people employed by the company dropped to 327 individuals, which is a decrease of 63 people from 1905; the company was in trouble. The workforce was composed of 275 adult males, 41 adult females, 8 children between the ages of 14 and 16, and 3 office employees. After it lost the monopoly on the production of the Boy Scout knives, the New York Knife Company could no longer compete successfully with the more modern knife producing factories and it was out of business in 1931.
The company was in a decline in 1911 and never pulled out. I suspect that management oversight and quality control were an issue and that on the same day some BSA knives were produced with the bail on the left and some with the bail on the right for no particular reason other than the production line they were being made on.
