I had a 1975 Ovation Custom Legend that I liked a lot but a nephew fell in love with it and was serious about learning to play so I gave it to him for his birthday almost 20 years ago. (After all, I still had the D15) He learned to play well but over the years I've lost touch with him. I often wonder how he's doing and what became of that fine guitar. I play mostly Bluegrass, Folk and acoustic rock. The D15 rings like a bell and has a great action and good projection. I'm with you, bud. Custom Legends are great guitars. I play an old Gibson J-45 or my Yamaha most of the time now. I have a few others in the rotation too.Sasquach wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 12:53 pmI had a 1975 Ovation Custom Legend that I liked a lot but a nephew fell in love with it and was serious about learning to play so I gave it to him for his birthday almost 20 years ago. As the tag line in the vaccine ad goes "Shingles Doesn't Care!" This was me in August 2019, a couple of days after the shingles blisters starting arriving on my face. They eventually extended up under my hair to the left side of my head and the scalp on the left side of the top of my head. Even after the blisters left, the nerve pain remained for several months. As is the case, they were only on the left half of my head. At age 60, this was the first outbreak I've had on my face/head. I got the vaccine after that. I twice previously had them on my waistline/lower back--once in my late 30s and again in my mid 40s.

Re: what do ya'll look like?
I’ve had Shingles once. It started under the hairs on my left eyebrow and proceeded to cover my entire forehead and parts of my scalp. Started out as just an itch.
I had to see an eye doctor to make sure none of it got into my eye. Thank goodnes, it did not.
I was fortunate not to have it where I had to wear clothes over the top of it. I’ve heard that clothes rubbing against it is the worst part.
I see my doctor again in about 10 days for an annual checkup. This time I won’t forget to ask him for the Shingles vaccine.

Back in the early 80s, I worked in a quick print shop. We had a self-serve copy machine in the front of the store. A lady was in one day making copies from a medical book. I got to talking with her. Her husband had Shingles on his face that had moved into one of his his eyes and was affecting his sight in that eye. IIRC, I think she said he was actually going blind in that eye.

Wow! I hope he came out okay. They did tell me that I would have been at a major risk of going blind if it got in there. I was pretty stressed out over it and very grateful and relieved that my eye was okay. Had me worried sick though.PringleTree wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 6:08 pmHi Rick:Railsplitter wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 1:41 am ...I had to see an eye doctor to make sure none of it got into my eye. Re: what do ya'll look like?
I've so far been lucky regarding shingles, but do spend time worry about it since I'm 71. I asked my Dr. if I should get the vaccine, but he said in my case the risk is low so not to get it now, which actually surprises me since I've had chicken-pox as a kid, and it's apparently the same virus.
I sure do feel for you guys, it certainly doesn't appear to be any fun.
When I first saw your picture Chris, before reading the text I honestly thought you were going to tell us about a romantic interlude you were involved in, cuz I thought the large circular blister to the right of your mouth was from tell-tale lipstick left behind by a honey! It's a shame I was wrong!
I can truthfully say, Chris, that you came through it in fine form and no less from the wear and tear, I hope, and as for you, Rick, although I believe I've not seen what you look like, undoubtedly you're a fine example of manlyhood! lol!
Oh, almost forgot Chris, to AAPK!

Given your age and medical history, I agree it's a bit perplexing that your doc would recommend against you getting the vaccine. It is a shame that the red on my face wasn't from lipstick. Although I guess today we'd have to say Chapstick as I know and see many of the fairer sex who are constantly applying Chapstick but never use lipstick. I guess they like the flavors.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Marco--much appreciated.
