Doing business tonight around dinner time. This Spanish slip-joint makes a great personal, steak knife. I keep a cheapo slip on it- ‘cause I worked on the handle. It came rough, so I got out my Japanese “fret files” (a tool from my guitar bench-that works great on knife stuff) and a coupla grades of steel wool and finished the olive wood with three, hand rubbed coats of lineseed oil.
Made the grain pop, and water beads up off it. That curved handle feels great now.

Today is my late mother's 103rd birthday. She passed 9 days shy of her 100th. So, I'm carrying a knife that she gave me for my birthday. She loved blue.. I miss her..

That knife was bought from Gilbert Coopers site on ebay, he slipped them by the ebay by not mentioning that they were autos, it's China made I'm sure, lightweight fires hard.
Tote'n some good ole solid Imperial steel this morning, will put the ole Schrade in the watch pocket, probably slip a flipper in the right front pocket before I leave the house.

A “G.A.K.” Straight surplus from Varastuleka. Stamped “ICAR” clearly issued, ‘cause it was thrashed when I got it. But it is RAZOR sharp, stays that way through hard use, and the saw actually works.

I still have the Case XX my dad gave when I was a kid in the 70's, so it is great that you still have that knife she gave you (that is a sure sign that she was a great mom ). ... ... My mom was headed to her 90s, but she fell and broke her hip and that was the beginning of the end for her. But was in very good health up to that point. She had horses into her late 80's and was out there every day, working on cleaning the corrals, feeding them, grooming them, etc... etc... That was her great passion in life, horses and sewing, she was an amazing seamstress.
