Not too recently, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, it turned out to be a keeper and it did get added to my general, "foreign born" pocket knife accumulation. It is a SOLINGEN, two blades, one tang stamp, 3 5/8" closed, mother of pearl handles or scales, tipped bolsters, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "SOLINGEN" with a logo above it. The main handle side (written) says, "Karlsbad" (EUROPE). The other handle side says, "15/1 1912" (January 15, 1912). It seems that this location and date was special to someone. The one handle side scale has a piece missing. The secondary blade is out of alignment with the spring. The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is still in GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Recently, this advertising pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular advertising pocket knife. However, it did get added to my general, "foreign born" pocket knife accumulation. It is an UNKNOWN (as of this posting), two blades, one tang stamp, 3 3/16" closed, one spring, advertising pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "????.DIST.AG. or ????.DIST.AC. (over) DES MOINES (over) GERMANY" The main handle or scale used to say, "PAYNE MOTOR CO." The other handle or scale used to say, "PAIGE - JEWETT" Both handles or scales had cracks in them. I removed both of the handles or scales as a precaution. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in POOR condition. I did NOT clean it. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Thank you, Dimitri. 🍻
While I don't think the handles or scales are outgassing,
this pocket knife is in the isolation ward, just to be safe.

Just so others know what to look for, this knife is definitely outgassing.

Dimitri, I decided that since I have NO intention of even trying to restore this pocket knife,
that I would play it safe and remove both of the handles or scales. I deleted my previously
posted "before" pictures of the pocket knife in question and replaced them with the currently
posted "after" pictures. I'm only hanging on to this pocket knife for the mystery tang stamp.

Good call on removing the handles Skip 👍

I think one picture of the knife handles on would be a nice reference for posterity ::nod::
