New (To Me) Contini

Post by RoyS »

Hi Guys,

Haven't been posting too much, too busy with a motorcycle project.

Anyway, I wanted to share my new (to me) Antonio Contini Switchblade. O/A is 11 1/8 with a rolling safety. Lovely knife.

Cheerio,
Roy

Hey Roy!
I too was wondering where you've been, but then thought you were likely out riding.
I'd heard of and seen knives from Antonio, but it wasn't until I bought this gently used model from our own Muskratman did I discover he builds tanks, this knife is a solid beast!
Very similar to yours but for a different type of safety, swinguards, and covers, possibly the blade steel too, mine is SS but yours looks like Damascus, yes?
What do you think about the 1/4" thick swinguards, those alone add to the already impressive weight!
Good hearing from you, man!

Again I apologize for my lousy pictures, it's next to impossible to get rid of the glare! ::dang::

Hi Marco,

Thanks for that mate and well done on your fined, lovely. No mine is just a standard blade but as you say built like a tank. And I really like the guard, very classy.

Roy

I think your knife was built to look more rustic than mine was, Roy.
The covers have a nice brown tinge in them, and the guards have a more antique look to them , whereas my guards appear more modern and my covers are bright white. if you look closely at the site you'll see many of the makers lean toward rustic, and personally I like it. On my screen your blade has a Damascus appearance, that's why I mentioned it.
Do you mind me asking where you got it, and if you're feeling brave a ballpark cost? Thx!

Would that be in the same category as a brick sh*t house, Smitty? ::shrug:: lol!
You don't know the half of it, brother, when you hear someone say "It nearly jumps out of my hand when I fire it", well, they're talkin about knives like this one! That big ole' fat 5mm spring and blade make for a deadly combination, pure power!

Yes,

I really like the rustic/antique look too, particularly on these older style Italian knives. I got it from a very nice seller on this site and I'm happy to share I paid $700 for it. It now goes nicely with my Floris knives, so I'm a happy chap.

Thanks, Roy, you got a great deal. ::handshake::
Did you buy it privately, cuz I browse the automatics section everyday and I hadn't seen it, and does he have more? ::shrug:: Thx!

Thanks mate,

It was a private deal and I don't think he has more.

I really like these old world Italian knives, not perhaps as pretty or practical as some but they do have that old world charm and I'm a sucker for history. I keep my favorite little Floris on my night stand and just can't go to sleep without opening it up once or twice.

I know exactly what you mean, Roy, I have a knife I like soooo much I wish I could safely sleep with it. ::facepalm::
But it never ends, as soon as I think I've found my "Grail" knife something new and different comes along and I quickly forget the "Grail" that was so important a short time ago. ::doh::
Thanks for the information, man, I appreciate it! ::handshake::

I agree, All of Antonio's knives are built like tanks..lol. I own a few of the other custom knife makers creations, built forcme, like Lelle Floris ( I own his 1st and second ever Left Handed knives commissioned for me) but There is something about Antonio's knives when you deploy them and they "Thunk" and jump in your hand.
I actually commissioned Antonio to build mine as I'm a lefty and that seems to be the only way I can get left handed knives.
He created a Custom Left handed Maltese Cross switchblade with pink rams horn scales and a star pivot pin screw so i may adjust the action as needed.
I love how he kept me in the process with him sending me pictures each step of the way as he was building it. ( You can see how he had my last name in marker on area to be covered by scales)
Here is the video of my knife on my youtube Channel and I have my Lelle and Dolphin Knives on there as well .
None are for sale.. just for viewing pleasure..lol

Wow, I thought I was fortunate to own just 1 A. Contini knife, Doc, and here's you with multiple models! You have special needs for left-handed knives, whereas I have need for special shipping methods so as to get my knives past Canada Customs, and I was very fortunate that the knife I received and posted above had a screw and barrel pivot so the blade can be removed and sent separately, making it legal to import. I love the big thick swinguards he uses for his builds, not to mention the incredible action the knife displays. I'd also like to have Paul "Burn" Panak build me one of his knives someday, and Lelle Floris too. With your in-depth involvement with autos I assume you are aware of Paul, but in case you're not here's a link www.burnknives.com , you'll see some incredible knives there. If you get a security warning when you click-on the link, just keep going cuz no transactions can be done online just viewing, ordering and payment is done by email and/or phone using secure means so you can safely continue. I watched your video and immediately subscribed lol!
::welcome:: to AAPK and looking forward to viewing your knives! ::handshake::
