What do you think?
I would be interested in this, but the only reason I hesitate is that Goins doesn’t mention “Made in U.S.A.” on the tang stamp.

That knife is fine - I have owned several just like it. It is a later Utica, most likely late 40's to 50's. Every knife company varied their tang stamps so much that no book can catalog all of the variations.
Re: What do you think?
Thanks, Steve! Shows you what I know - I thought Kutmaster was on all Utica knives from 1937 on, so I assumed this was pre-1937. Helps explain why this one looks so nice for its age.

Re: What do you think?
Steve knows better than I do, but i would think long and hard about this one. The tang shows some file/grind marks, appears it may be cold stamped, and the "Made in USA" seems to be double stamped. If all that is my imagination, please either ignore my reply or educate me. Learning as much as possible about old knives is one of the reasons I joined AAPK.

I don’t know anything about the authenticity but I do know it has beautiful bones!

Re: What do you think?
The knife is definitely a Utica made knife, I have had at least 5 or 6 absolutley identical to that one, same pattern, same knife even down to the bone jigging and with the same tang stamp.

As I stated, “Steve knows better than I do”. It seems my trepidation was totally unfounded. It is, without question, a beautiful old knife.

Re: What do you think?
I agree that the stamp looks crappy, but that is true on many older knives. Companies making knives for the collector market in recent years (like Case and Queen) do a better job on tang stamps becuase they are aiming for the collecor market not the user market.Gtrclktr-351 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 7:02 pm As I stated, “Steve knows better than I do”. I think it’s very unlikely for a Utica to be counterfeited. JMO.
