Bizarre how there is snow down on the Gulf Coast, but up here on the Northern Plains we have NADA.

I heard a couple of days ago that the panhandle was going to get snow and couldn’t believe my ears. I bet it shut down everything down there. I’ve traveled in the south when it snowed and just an inch is enough to cancel schools and shut down government and businesses. Around here an inch is not considered to be a problem. Like others, I remember the blizzard of 78 when we got over 30” of snow. The extreme cold is a problem though and this morning it’s -5 degrees. Our 6 inches of snow is hard pack now and very difficult to walk on since it slightly melted last week on one day. Can’t wait for a warm up.

We lived just south of Cleveland Ohio in 78. I remember it described as a white hurricane as we had sustained 70 mph winds. Snow drifts so high they covered semi trucks. They had to get the National Guard to help clear the interstate highways.

We lived just south of Cleveland Ohio in 78. I remember it described as a white hurricane as we had sustained 70 mph winds. Snow drifts so high they covered semi trucks. They had to get the National Guard to help clear the interstate highways.

That might have been the same storm that drifted our driveway shut at the farm, 6' deep drift. In the early 70's that happened also, when I was about 3 or 4 years old, and there's a picture of me on top of the drift with my mother standing beside me on the shoveled out path. The wind blew all of the snow off of the field surrounding the farm house and deposited it in the driveway.

That looks cold, cold, cold being on that lake.

We had a frost quake yesterday. One of the loudest ones I’ve heard. People heard it all around us as well as far away as about 10 miles north of us. Unusual but it does happen when it stays this cold for long here in Indiana.

Proud to say most of our snow is gone! A few tiny white patches visible coming home from church and we got up to 68°. Rain supposedly coming tomorrow, had a south wind this afternoon.

Question about the ice fishing, is there a logic to placement of the holes or is it just drop the bait in the water and wait?

Here in our chain of lakes the bait shops and guides openly share the good spots as well as the ice conditions on their Facebook pages.

Ice Fishing is not something I could or would want to take part in.

Currently in Ponder it's clear skies and 28 degrees with a wind chill of 20.
High today will be around 53 degrees with the winds out of the NNW @ 7 mph.

Going to have our January thaw this week, Temps in the 40s to near 50. No snow to thaw however, looking very dry here.
