Re: Anyone like opinel,
My dad never waited until Christmas or birthdays to give me anything… I always just remember him coming home from work or trips and saying “I got you this!” It was always something cool, and once it was an Opinel pocket knife. I just bought two: a #10 with a bottle opener and corkscrew to keep at our cabin, and a #6 to carry.

Re: Anyone like opinel,
I may have shown these before.
The group is a set I bought a few years ago. The single is OPINEL company 130th anniversary addition.
I have another one in the garage that was intended for the owner to shape or carve the handle to their
own design. Like the ones I just won on our monthly contest. You don't want to see what I carved.

Re: Anyone like opinel,
I really want to like these knives, what with all the good talk and reviews. But just something about 'em that makes me say no and set it back in the display.
But that's me.
But that's me.
Take care and God bless,

Re: Anyone like opinel,
I know what you mean Steve, it took me several years before I purchased my first one. I don't carry or use them, I just have these in my collection.Steve Warden wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 7:10 pm I really want to like these knives, what with all the good talk and reviews. I'm the latter-I only buy what I'll carry and use.

Re: Anyone like opinel,
I carry a Nō 7 from time to time for light use. They are super light and fairly strong but the blade is thin. It works well as a food prep knife at camp, not the best to stab through a feed sack or cut a box.Steve Warden wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:53 am Ah, the difference between collectors and accumulators.

Re: Anyone like opinel,
I have always thought that the reason people don't carry them is because the high carbon stains so easily, and they are difficult to open with one hand. I have a #8 & a #10, but don't use them much for the reasons I stated.

Stain = patina. No worries here.OLDE CUTLER wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 4:54 pm I have always thought that the reason people don't carry them is because the high carbon stains so easily, and they are difficult to open with one hand. Can't open 1 hand; can't do that with any of the knives I carry. No problems here.
Just no love for the handle. Like I said, I want to like it, just can't bring myself to it.

Re: Anyone like opinel,
I have a few Opinels. Large and small.
They have their place.
If you get them wet they are hard to open with two hands.

Re: Anyone like opinel,
I have some and they are kind of cool.
They seem a little fragile for hard or extended use.
