Question about Gerber Sheaths

In 1939 Joseph Gerber (advertising agency owner) had custom knife maker David Murphy make 24 sets of carving knife for some of his select customers. Catalog retailer Abercrombie & Fitch saw them and was so impressed with the quality of the knives they wanted to sell them. Thus was born Gerber Legendary Blades.

Question about Gerber Sheaths

Post by knifeaholic »

I just acquired a large lot of "new old stock" Gerber items.

Included were these three small leather belt sheaths.

Does anyone know what knife or sharpener these were intended for?

The storage cavity is pretty small and flat - about 3" long by 1-1/4" wide by only about 1/8" deep.

One of them has the marking 2P on back.

When I Google the number 97223 on the back of the sheath several small Gerber lock backs pop up. Sportsman 2 for example.

97223 is Gerber's zip code in Oregon. They put that number on everything.

Man you know more details about knives than I would have thought anyone possibly could.

Your sheaths are made for the Paul knives.
