Filling in chipped dark bone

Here’s before and after of a minor repair of small missing bone scale sections on an old German Springer.
I simply repeatedly layered super glue and dry coffee that I ground into a powder in a mortar and pestle. I repeated alternating layers of each and “pushed” it into the “spaces” with a toothpick. When dried hard, I carefully filed and sanded it.
I might add a bit of jigging near the lower bolster, or leave “well enough alone”! (As my Dad would say”)

I use finely ground instant coffee and casting resin for repairs on dark bone. It works very well.

Stick around here and you just might learn something. Coffee and super glue or resin to repair bone. Who'd a thunk it?

Only question I would have is when "layering" as you describe, new wet superglue with ground coffee colorant was deposited on cured dried superglue with coffee colorant. Will those layers stick together in the long run. The way Bill DeShivs described his process is the same as mine, the new material is mixed with colorant and applied in one "pour". Do you think that layering will be a problem? Keep us informed.

Time will tell, I guess. The resulting hardened paste seemed homogeneous enough. It filed and sanded down well enough after it cured a while. I prepped the areas pretty well. I doubt it will delaminate, but I’m not a chemist. I thought it would be worth trying since most folks have super glue and coffee! Thanks for your input and interest!

You did a good job on it! I am also curious to know how durable it is. I suspect that it will work, as super glue bonds well to powdered substances, but of course only time will tell.
I also use resin and one pour.
I like that you used coffee to color it. I like using natural materials as colorants when matching bone. Cinnamon, garlic powder, coffee, paprika, etc can go a long way to matching different shades of old bone!
