What's going on?

A place to ask and answer "How do I" questions and post tips & tricks that make your AAPK experience easier and more pleasant. Some little thing that you do all the time and take for granted may be an "aha moment" for a new or maybe even a veteran AAPK user.

What's going on?

Post by OLDE CUTLER »

When leaving a subject page and using the Home button, instead of going to the AAPK Home I go to the AAPK Stores. Is this a new layout?

When I hit the home button it goes to a new home page. Pretty cool.
It has options, buy, sell, discuss (forum), research.
I like it.

That’s what I’m seeing also. I scrolled down from there and there are a couple dozen additional options. Most anything a member might want to access is on that page. Pretty cool indeed.

The old homepage is gone. I never used the”topics list” on the left hand side. Try scrolling down the new homepage, click on things and see what you find. I think you may get pretty much the same thing by clicking on “View Active Topics” from the new home page. ::shrug:: Like anything new and different it will take a little playing around with the new format to adjust.

I love that the Research section is now prominently featured instead of being an obscure item in the header, which many members (especially new ones) rarely if ever found. ::tu::

Can you find any logic in the order in which the threads are shown after you click on View Your Posts?

Mine are in chronological order starting with when the most recent post was made. Not by you. By whoever posted last in any thread in which you have made a post. It's the same as "your posts" under Quicklinks has been ( and still is).

For me that is a change for the worse. I want to be able to quickly bring up my most recent posts to correct spelling and make what I wrote more clear. After walking away from what they wrote most writers will see writing errors they couldn't spot right after writing it. Some times I do not remember where I posted. For example, a question about a Case knife could have been asked in a half dozen sub forums. The old system showed our posts in the order of how recently they were posted.

I don't like it. I prefer the old system where the newest topics are all in a row, I don't wish to look though lots of pages just to see the new posts. I don't reply to a lot of subjects but I like to read what they have to say. I also liked it better when I didn't have to log in to see the posts, only to reply.

I hate "change" and actually I'm not finding any. My screen is the same as it has always been. ::tu:: ::groove:: -- so far.

The first screen that I see when I log on is the same screen that I have always seen when I log on but I do see the new features when I click on “Home” at the top of the page.

I don’t normally click on Home. I only tried it because of this thread. 99% of the time I log on and then click on “New Posts” and that process works the same as it always has.

I see the changes but I have to go looking for them.

Same here. I have my browser set to open the “New Posts” page when I log in, so I seldom ever start with the Home Page. It’s all a matter of what we’re accustomed to I think. ::shrug::

Click on your member name (upper right of the page). Then from the drop down list click profile > search user’s posts. That should bring up only those posts you have made. In chronological order starting with your most recent post.

Thank-you Mumbleypeg. The sequence you described is what I've been doing for years. Clicking on VIEW YOUR POSTS on the new home page was what did not work well for me. I assumed clicking on VIEW YOUR POSTS on the new home page was the new way of doing what I wanted. For me the forum has always opened on the home page because my habit is typing in the AAPK address. I liked the old home page's list of new threads. Its fault was that it only showed the new thread's title without showing which sub-forum the new thread was under.

That's what I've been looking for as well. Can't find it no matter what I try. It was a lot easier to find the latest postings quickly on that page.

I click on UNREAD POSTS, just below what you point out.
That way the new posts that I've already read aren't cluttering the list.
The newest posts always show up at the top of the UNREAD anyway.

Good point. We’re all used to what we’re used to. It’s like already said, when they move stuff around in the store it takes a while to learn where they put “stuff” we like to buy. Where did they hide the coffee?
