Theile and Quack, Wade Bros. Germany

Post by Ridgegrass »

Here's a swell-center, balloon whittler from Wade Bros. Made by Wester & Butz. (1866-1890)It has the underlined Bros. feature like other German knives. The scales are genuine tortoise. 3-1/4". J.O'.

Very cool. I am always looking around for Wade named knives, though I can’t find any ties to my family line and cutlers.

I have a Wade and Butcher my wife got me, I believe it to be one of the German made ones. I haven’t came across a Wade Brothers yet for sale.

That's a popular blade configuration, J.O', broken Pen and sharpened down Main included! 🤣 There's a faint line under BROS on all three stamps on mine too. This maker brought about the "Country of Origin" requirement according to Goins. I wish I knew what this wood is, maybe Cocobolo? ::shrug::

Red, It looks like slab-sawn cherry but that would be odd for a German piece. ::shrug:: O'.

If I remember, I'm going to take it with me to the SVKCC show. Someone there might know for sure. 😉
