Finally.....
Coley,
Kid: "Wish we had time to bury them fellas."
Josey Wales: "To hell with them fellas. Buzzards got to eat, same as worms."

This is a little Red Belly Woodpecker I made as a gift for a fellow knife friend. He has a pull string where when pulled it will peck the branch it’s mounted on. The base and branch are Native Pecan wood from here in NTX.

Thank you very much! I used a razor tip to burn feather detail lines in and was wishing I had the wood burning wizard up here helping me It was a fun little project . I mailed it March 3rd and finally arrived to its new home yesterday only 11 days past expected.

The mail around here has really gotten bad, except all the junk mail that nobody wants. I'll be driving through your area in a while heading over to Hwy 75 and north to Missouri, wish I had time to stop and have lunch at your restaurant but we'll be way past there by lunch. Have a great day.

That is an amazing work of folk art Wade and that recipient is ecstatic I'm sure. That's a nice facsimile of red bellied woodpeckers around here.
I believe the recipient was very pleased, I had a nice chat on the phone with him. If I knew how to carve one that flys it would have made it there sooner!

Another wonderful project! Very much folk art feel to it. The pull string is icing on the cake. Just fabulous!

This.....
Coley, there are NO words. But.....
Kid: "Wish we had time to bury them fellas."
Josey Wales: "To hell with them fellas. Buzzards got to eat, same as worms."

It was slow in the shop due to heavy rain today so I took a little scrap 5/8x5/8x1-1/2 and my pocket knife and tried a Van Kelly inspired winking man. No gouges just pocket knife work(GEC Pocket Carver from a generous friend).

Are you looking in the mirror for a model ? I think it's amazing to be able to put character into a piece of wood.
If I looked in the mirror for a model the site may get closed down if I posted the finished piece

Still.....
Coley,
I think the "yawning face" looks more like a "gotcha!" face.
