Favorite Blues/Rock songs/guitarists
Re: Favorite Blues/Rock songs/guitarists
This Rob Buchanan dude is pretty cool. Playing mean style guitar while casually drinking beer. Hmmmm. Check out the 3:35 mark of Down By The River where he's still playing and casually picks up and drinks his beer. Wooooooooooe.

Zero argument from me about that.

Sorry you took it that way - it was certainly not my intent. I was simply agreeing with your right to disagree, by saying having different opinions isn’t a bad thing. If we all liked the same thing this old world would be a pretty boring place!Kimzilla wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 7:04 amOUCH!Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 6:31 am I guess that’s why they make chocolate, strawberry and vanilla!![]()

You just called me a "basic" bitch. LOL.
Now, having been raised in the South and taught from a young age to always be respectful toward women, if I had wanted to disparage you I’d have prefaced my comment with “Bless your heart…….”

Re: Favorite Blues/Rock songs/guitarists
“Bless your heart” is a southern saying, and it is not always a bad thing. It depends on the situation, and the tone, or inflection. Probably not something you hear in your neck of the woods, so here’s a good explanation.

Sorry Kim, but I like this guy - he’s a blues slide guitar genius. No less than Eric Clapton called him the best live guitarist alive today.

Re: Favorite Blues/Rock songs/guitarists
Just reading this very good book on the history of American guitar. As a life long picker, I find it extremely interesting that before the 1920's, guitar was really a percussive background instrument. Very rarely used as a lead. The book begins with Lonnie Johnson who was the first nationally known blues guitar recording artist. It ends with Ry Cooder, Ralph Towner, and Lenny Breau. (It's 1982 copyright predates some later greats.) All in all it hits on the movers and shakers who made guitar what it is today. Eddie Lang, Roy Smeck, Charlie Christian, Riley Puckett, T-Bone Walker, George Barnes, Hank Garland, Wes Montgomery, Mike Bloomfield, just to mention a few. Excellently written and researched.

Re: Favorite Blues/Rock songs/guitarists
First couple of times I heard SRV it was him doing Jimi Hendrix covers. I thought, wow he can play like Hendrix. But as I heard more of Mr. Vaughan’s music, I thought damn he can play. He became one of my favorites. My all time favorite blues guitar player would have to be B.B.King. Throw Sonny Landreth and George Thorogood in that on any given day you’d have my Mt.Rushmore. Of course, one of the most underrated guitar players ever was Prince. And probably, for me, the most versatile guitar player was Jerry Garcia. And I’ve just scratched the surface of “great” modern blues guitarists.1OldTreeClimber wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 2:49 am Let us not forget Stevie Ray Vaughan, "Texas Flood",studio or live.
