I've got 2 months to go before I retire and It cant get here soon enough.
I can remember when I was a young pipe fitters apprentice and couldn't wait for the weekend to be over so could get back to work. Now I literally have to force myself to go.

I have been retired for eight years this spring. I did not hate my job, but it really was a relief to stop going to work. The biggest thing I disliked for the last decade or so of work was all the safety and security stuff. I understand that it is necessary, but after about ten or twenty briefings about all the dangers in an industrial plant, it sure gets old. I bet as a pipefitter you had a lot of that also.

Some folks worry about being bored, but that has not been a problem for me. I have my books, my beer, my boat, my herbs, and especially my naps! Sometimes I still dream about work and the men I worked with decades ago, but I have never missed going to work one single time.

I’ve been retired for 8 years too! I was happy to finally be done with work. I didn’t have anything left to offer so it was time.

Enjoy your retirement when it gets here. It will happen before you know it; and then time will really fly.
I've been retired for 16 years. It seems odd to even type that. It sure has gone fast.
I was amazed how costly it was to work day in and day out. Yes, I have less income but also I spent a lot of money
keeping the employment thing up on wheels. I enjoy my time at many other personal pursuits.

I loved my job but retired in 2018 after 20 years of commuting to DC; it got the best of me. Then Covid hit and all of a sudden I could do the job I loved from home and zero commuting. I did that for 30-40 hours a week until June 2023 and then I said goodbye and meant it. Retirement is everything I had planned for and each day is glorious. I wish you well when the day arrives and please report back

Best wishes on your upcoming retirement! I remember the first work night after I retired. I was out on the deck drinking a beer, and I had the thought "better head in and get to bed". Then it popped into my head--"What the heck am I worried about going to bed for at this hour--I've got nowhere that I have to be in the morning!" Ended up sitting out on the deck until about 4am, listening to far-off trains and watching critters pass through the yard in the moonlight. It was fantastic.

Me too, had a wonderful job but I put in my forty years and was offered a nice incentive to say goodbye, and ain't never looked back. We have a reunion once a year and a group of us get together monthly for breakfast. A smaller group of besties meets every week at hooters. The rough part is missing all the ones that have passed over.
