Case Tested XX Daddy Barlow w/Saber blade?
Case Tested XX Daddy Barlow w/Saber blade?
Hello. I was at a local flea market and found a beautiful old knife. It was a granddaddy or daddy Barlow, with a Case Tested XX tang stamp, red bone handles, but the blade was a Saber blade. Nice open close and fit, but asking $300, so I passed to go home and due some research.
Pfeiffers has the 43 pattern with a clip blade only in the three reference pictures. In my other reference books, the blade style is not mentioned. I only find saber blade on the Case 45 patterns. I'm leaning towards a fake or reworked knife, but would appreciate anyone's additional input.
BTW, don't know why, but I didn't take a picture. I'll add one next trip, if it's still there. Thanks in advance.

Case never made the 6143 with a saber-ground blade (like they did and do on the 65 hunter). "Red Bone" handles on a Case Tested knife is also a HUGE red flag as to the authenticity.roger007 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 9:25 pm Hello. I was at a local flea market and found a beautiful old knife. Adding my 2 cents worth, in addition to the 65 hunter that knifeaholic mentioned, the C61050SAB also might be the donor for the knife in question.knifeaholic wrote: ↑Sun Mar 30, 2025 9:50 pmCase never made the 6143 with a saber-ground blade (like they did and do on the 65 hunter). Added a pic. I stated earlier that it had "red bone" handles, which obviously they are not. Sorry. Looked at too many knives that day. But this shows the Case Tested tang stamp on Saber blade. The back of side tang of blade was blank.

The frame may be an authentic Case frame, but the blade is a replacement and is fake - not a Case blade.

That blade looks way too aggressive for "Case" or "old."
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!
