K7K, Many interesting photos. I especially like the very first one of those different wrist cuffs. I think that is what they all are. ::tu::

Actually they are belt buckles. I didnt start out collecting them; they just sort of happened. A couple were gifts from my brother in law, one was from a co worker whose dad was in the Soviet navy(he was from Finland),some were from the NRA, some were gifts(thank you Jerry D). The one in the lower right corner is a 5 dollar flea market find: a limited edition Salvador Dali buckle made for Pirelli tire company. Worth about a grand today.

K7K, of course I now see they are belt buckles. What threw me off was the very first wide buckle. I still have to learn not to make snap judgements.
It is a wonderful collection of buckles' To have that Dali buckle is amazing. Congratulations.

Found this lying in the front yard today while walking Maggie.

It’s been quite windy here lately, so there’s no telling where it came from, other than to say somewhere west of here.

It’s quite translucent, almost transparent.

I’m familiar with “silver dollar”, but this is not the same.

It’s attachment point is pretty much dead center on a ridge on the back side.

I don’t think I have ever in my life seen one of these.

Any ideas?

Kind of a bizarre illusion. I was outside the house and looked down the street and happened to notice this. At first glance I was thinking to myself, "Oh, there is somebody sitting in a chair and looking at something with a pair of binoculars". NOT really.

Here’s a stumper!

We have dogs, cats, guineas and free-range chickens. They drink a lot of water - even more in summer - so we have several water bowls and buckets around the place, that we try to keep filled. One of them is a hollowed-out rock. When I was a young-un it was the dogs’ water bowl at my grandparents place. For some reason unknown to me - who knows why - the animals prefer their water from that rock. Just out of curiosity I have moved it to other locations but it’s always the first water “container” to be empty. ::shrug:: Anyone know why??

100% conjecture Ken:
  • Stone can help keep the water cooler, especially in warmer climates like yours, which might be more appealing to your dogs
  • The material of the stone might impart a slightly different taste to the water compared to other bowls, potentially making it more palatable to your dogs

I’ve thought of both of those as possibilities. I can’t detect any difference in taste myself though. ::sotb::

bestgear's suggestions seem highly possible. My thought is that the stone may contain some mineral content which the water absorbs.

While out in the pasture today I spotted this Monarch caterpillar, feasting on milkweed. Horns/antennae on both ends, so not sure if it was coming or going! ::hmm::

Those dogs are trying to get the taste of something else out of their mouth. The rock helps scrape it off.
