Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
Took my annual Memorial Day weekend hike along the northern rim of Pisgah Gorge, in Jackson County, Alabama.
We go there for Sarah’s Ferguson Family Reunion and Decoration Day.
I’ve done this every year since 1966, save when I was in service in 67, 68 and 69 and in 2023, when Sarah had fallen at home and broken her neck the week before.
I met a young couple that told me something I had never heard. At the top of the second set of falls, there is a rope that can be used to lower oneself down to a ledge and a second rope that will take one to the floor of the gorge. From there, one can walk a few hundred feet, hugging the side of the rock face and reach a natural bridge or hole in the wall, just before the third falls.
I might try that next year.
The photo was texted to me by the young man and a video of the descent process.
The little snake was basking on a hot rock in the wash that hoes fown to the second falls.

I found these cute baby muskrats at the pond the other day.
Just a little bigger that a tennis ball.

This young Black Bear wandered out of the brush and onto the trail at the pond I frequent.
He soon went back in the brush.

The wind shifted direction and cleared out the Kilauea vog that's been suffocating us for the past few weeks so Ann and I headed down to the end of our street to remember why we love living here so much. Thought I'd share a few pics of our "front yard" and a bit of history about this historic area for those who may be interested.

Looked outside this morning and this snapper was on the sidewalk at the bottom of the front steps. Shell length is about 12 inches.

Heavy rains last night left a reflecting pool at the park this morning and the waves rolling in made some nice splashes. Hard to capture in photos, though, because they happen so fast. I was lucky to capture one really pretty wave

Found a broken welk shell and setup this picture of our lighthouse this morning, one of 7 in NC that we on the island are very proud of. Second picture was earlier in the week from my drone.

Q and Tom, you fellers are showing us some beautiful sites!

Re: Pictures of Miscellaneous Stuff & Things
We have a lot of feral goats and hogs around our place. The hogs are generally solitary, stealthy, nocturnal and most often seen as roadkill, but the goats roam in sizeable herds that leap across the road in front of your vehicle out of nowhere and are so quick they rarely get hit. This morning a single goat kid was hanging around the rubbish dump all alone...unusual to see a baby this size without the nanny mama nearby. He didn't seem too concerned, but he didn't want anything to do with me either and kept a safe distance whenever I tried to get closer for a better photo. Cute little fella!

bestgear and Q, fine shots. Always drawn to lighthouses. Not too long ago, the Boston lighthouse went automatic. It was the last manned lighthouse in the U.S.
