If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Answering Ripster and Bighomer's FCD call

Post by MissouriGuerrilla »

Hey folks,
It was March since I was last on here. M-a-n-y things happening in life and I just gave up on knife collecting as any budget to buy a knife, here and there, went out the window. Then, I was really bummed when SMKW stopped their mailbox catalog permanently. That was one of my tiny joys in life. Get their catalog and sit outside and thumb thru it page by page at a snail's pace.
Then a few weeks ago, my mother (who's 88) gave me something I never expected. My grandfather's little keep sake box that looks like a trunk. Inside were SIX pocket knives along with five watches (four wrist, one chain). I can't say that it reignited my fire for knives again, but....it certainly sparked it.
Anyway, I've missed being a regular at the FCD and I might just be stopping in more often. I might go ahead and post pics of the knives I have inherited from my grandfather, but time is precious right now. Wife and I are dealing with our 11 year old cat, Banjo, who has cancer and is almost a hospice patient (for lack of a better term.) We hope we can pull him from the jaws of death with one last vet appointment.
Wrapping up now. Hope I didnt go on too long. Hopefully, I can get back into the full swing of things.
Y'all take care!

Good to see you posting, and I hope things start looking up. If I could make a recommendation, get some books on knife collecting or history, the ones with lots of pictures, it will scratch the itch of seeing different knives and help keep your love of knives honed.

Thanks C-WADE. I have been perusing the SMKW and Cutlery Corner websites and I haven't done that in awhile. I see that I have missed out on some unreal and awesome designs and styles.

I'm glad to see you back. That was a good suggestion Coley had about knife books. If you will send me a PM with your mailing address I'll get you started with my two knife books... :D

Praying Banjo makes a quick recovery, pets are like family members. 🙏

Great idea about perusing reference books, and a great way to learn more about many different brands. I, too, miss the SMKW catalog for the perusing feature. More often than not, I didn't buy anything but enjoyed seeing what new knives had hit the market.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Thanks, rr. We are fixing to take him to the vet in a little while where he will be "hospitalized," receiving fluids and given a thorough going over. He's been down a long road and we don't think he's ready to give up yet. Still got a lot of fight and spark left in him.

Good to be back, bh! I've missed the atmosphere on here. I think I need to cut back on looking at so many pictures though. I don't think it's healthy to drool so much. ::drool::  ::super_happy::

Thanks, Ripster. Today, we took Banjo to be cremated and picked out a wonderful wood box for his ashes. They will have mine and my wife's two nicknames for him on it. We had his body in a travel kennel I covered with two bath towels after his passing yesterday morning because our truck was in the shop and we had no way to get him to the cremation place. Naturally, death took over his appearance and features and we were glad to finally get him there so he wasn't in that state anymore. I hate to be graphic and detailed, but it's been a very hard and tragic 50 hours or so. We can't wait to have him back home and the final closure.
