What is this blade for?
I picked this up at an antique mall. I was wondering about the small blade on the left side of the pic. Both of the blades on that end of the knife are small, but one of them is kind of hooked. I can't say I have ever seen a blade like that before. Can anyone tell me what it is called and or what its purpose is?

Tha is a modern China made Klaas, but Klaas made that same knife in the 1960's to 80's. It is a small "hawkbill" or pruner blade - good for cutting plants/vines, also useful for cutting materials like fiberboard. Also used for stripping heavy cable. It is odd to see that blade shape in a stockman-style knife.

See here for some examples. viewtopic.php?t=19895&hilit=Hawkbill+pruner Your knife’s blade is just smaller than most dedicated pruners have, but not unheard of. Scroll down the first page of that thread to see some examples of smaller pruner blades.

Thanks for the education. I had always heard them called "hawkbill knives" but I did not really know what their purpose was.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 6:29 pm See here for some examples. viewtopic.php?t=19895&hilit=Hawkbill+pruner Your knife’s blade is just smaller than most dedicated pruners have, but not unheard of.
