Preserving an Imperial-Sheffield Super5

Post by SwedgeHead »

I posted this one recently but spent a few mins playing with it today and wanted to share my update.
This isn't (or wasn't) a high value knife at any time during its life really, but it's sure a tough one to find, and it's still the only one I have found or ever SEEN. I'd be curious if any of our imperial collectors or experts would say the same.

The knife itself is a Richards Sheffield and is stamped as such, but at some time in 77 Imperial put their brand on the packaging as a "Super 5".
The knife itself isn't hard to find out of the packaging, but as an Imperial "Super 5" it sure is so when I had a chance to grab it I was excited, but then with poor packing it showed up damaged with the original vac pack plastic cracked up. I was a little bummed as it's only original once, but it was a chance to play too, and it's just a $30 set.

I thought I might try piecing it back together, but being too brittle and with pieces missing I took a different tack and went about learning on how to make a simple DIY plastic vacuum forming machine thinking I'd try to make it look authentic and form-fit, and I was about to go about building it today when I saw an empty card from a fishing lure and decided to make it even simpler. So I cut it up and glued it on. I wasn't intending to leave any of the old yellowed plastic but parts of the graphics were actually in the plastic so I had to. Anyway, it's back in the collection now and although not great, it's not bad, and all free which I never complain about.

The Imperial-Sheffield Super 5, see if you ever see another, i'd be curious.

Here is it at home with friends, the full 7 piece set. I forgot I was waiting to take this shot until it was repaired.
