Case XX Gunboat Stag Prototype?
I’m usually the guy to call if you need to know what a knife sells for. I recently bought a knife collection from an older gentleman that had a 50 year old knife collection. He was particularly proud of this knife. I’ve never owned a prototype. What would you say this thing is worth. I believe it’s a 1980. It’s stag so I’ll likely never get rid of it. I love stag! Thanks in advance!

Looks like 1980, could be one of a kind.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Here's a link to one that sold on here for $280 a while back. I've seen a few on eBay over the years and I think it is listed in Parkers price guide. I'm not home currently to look at the book, but IIRC, I think there may have been 200 made. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of a Prototype, but I believe this to be the case. BTW, nice knife.XXCASEXX wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 4:09 am I’m usually the guy to call if you need to know what a knife sells for. Beautiful knife. The knife is shown on knifedb.com, 1980, 5394 prototype pattern. Says there were 200 made, all stamped “PROTO” and sold at “ factory auction” (whatever that means).
Also shown from 1980 is a 5394 having the master blade etched with an image of the Case Bank Street factory, which was part of a canoe pattern set commemorating the 75th year anniversary of the Bank Street factory. Doesn’t say how many sets were made nor what the set consisted of.
