Switch blade handle repair

Post by Estiletonavaja »

Anyone familiar with repairing switchblade handles. I have a switchblade with a detached cover and a missing cover for the handle. Don’t see it has robot options. So what strong bonding glue could be used

As far as reattaching the loose handle, I would imagine any glue suitable for plastics would work. Of course you would first need to remove all of the old glue. If you use any solvent to remove the old glue be careful to not get any on the handle scale as some solvents might dissolve the plastic.

As far as finding a replacement handle scale for the missing one, I'd say your chances are very unlikely to impossible. About the only chance you have is if someone just happens to post one (or a parts knife) for sale somewhere, and you see it and buy it before someone else does. And I'm sure that having one made would be expensive, if you could find someone willing to do it.

On a related note- Unless you are attached to the knife, it might be worth more to a collector if you leave it as-is. Just as I described the difficulty of finding replacement parts for these knives, there might be collectors out there looking for a "parts knife" to replace parts on a knife they already own. But if you were to reattach the handle with some modern super glue, such a collector might be a lot less interested.

A complete Spanish Matador sold here at AAPK a year ago for $395, so there is some value in these knives, and that might make a collector with an incomplete Matador particularly interested in acquiring a parts knife to produce a complete knife.

One things for sure, the Spanish aren't making any more of these knives.
