Germany "KORTEN" Knives.

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

Yesterday morning, this pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. It now becomes my first example to be posted under this new topic or thread. I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it definitely turned out to be a keeper. I gladly added this pocket knife to my general, mother of pearl, "foreign born" pocket knife accumulation. It is a KORTEN, two blades, two tang stamps, 2 5/8" closed, a long main blade pull, a long secondary blade pull, a swelled center, one spring, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "KORTEN (over) GERMANY" The secondary blade front tang stamp also says, "KORTEN (over) GERMANY" The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. I couldn't quite capture the mother of pearl colors. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

The only thing I can find with that name in my books says --Korten & Schert, Germany 1884-1916

Thank you, OLDE CUTLER. 🍻
I could only find KORTEN & SCHERF also.
There are also posts here, on AAPK.
But, they are not very informative.

I found the information in the picture, here:
https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kn ... hp?t=80670

It looks like "KORTEN" was the brand name used by KORTEN & SCHERF in 1900.

One reason you might not find much on Korten and Schert is because it was called "Korten and Scherf" with an f, not a t. The history of this knife is not written in English. I'm currently reading a German knife forum. And it appears that Korten and Scherf either imported from or exported to Magiano, Italy.

I'll reply with more if I can confirm this or other details.
