Started bow hunting this week. Season opened last month but still a lot of leaves on trees so we been waiting till now to hunt . And one of the crew shot this dandy Buck last night . We have land in Buffalo county and many of us landowners have been doing collective management for whitetail deer . For us that’s only shooting 3 year old or older bucks no does . It’s paying off in the last few years . Here’s a pic of Vic s Buck . He was sure happy and is still probably grinning ! So down to brother ,a nephew and I now . Will start hitting heavy this weekend. The rut usually starts end of October and lasts a few weeks here . Haven’t seen much on a new stand , might switch up and hunt the north side of a big ridge this weekend.

Thank you Steve and to all for your comments. Have passed them on to Vic , he’s still grinning by the way .
The inside measures 26 and 1/2 inch spread. . The long tines and huge beams are impressive and are currently waiting to get an official score . It’s definitely a once in a lifetime experience for many a bow hunter . And even gun hunters. Was a pleasure to be part of that evening’s hunt and to see a dear friend achieve a goal of his . He put many years of time and work into his hunting and deer management in Buffalo county .

Hunting with a bow is a skill in itself. And having a conservation plan pays dividends in the long run. Thanks for posting.

Still can't match anything close to Vic's buck but we do have a couple still in a bachelor group that I would take a crack at when the season opens.
Archery opens this Saturday but I don't do the "stick and string" hunt so I'll wait until Thanksgiving to maybe go and sit with my rifle.
Our rut doesn't get going until January and February and winter food plots are what cause the does to feed on the greens during that time and every now and then a buck will show up, if he's one of the ones in this pictures he might get a free ride to the old oak tree:

Congrats to him on his first buck. What was the gun?

I’m 56 years old and just recently closed on a house with some property in Indiana. Finally my dream of hunting is going to happen. I was blessed with having a place to take my son deer hunting on youth hunts when he was younger, but now I finally get to.

This picture came in later last evening showing our oldest grandson with a fine bass! I reckon he couldn't let his younger brother get all the attention yesterday with his 1st deer.

Good bass but they didn't tell me how much it weighed. Good job, Christian!

I have fond memories of these boys learning to fish here at Starvation Plantation as well as sitting in the shooting house and attempting to be quite.
