It's Beer Thirty

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Picked up some more Oktoberfestbier while it's still available. I think the Hofbräu is my favorite.

Time for everyone to have a cold one today to celebrate the end of Prohibition, December 5, 1933. I can imagine there were some huge parties on that day.

::ds:: We just returned from a trip to Czech Republic and Hungary. The Czechs are serious beer drinkers. They love Pils and believe it should be cold and poured with a full head of foam. Not trying to cheat you out of beer, there’s a mark on each glass that shows you got a full 1/2 liter of beer - on top is the foam. When you go to a bar or restaurant the beer barrels are typically on prominent display - they are re-filled daily. The typical bar tab has beer mugs on it - every time your table orders beer the waiter or bartender puts a slash to mark the number of beers served.

Interesting post, Ken. In this part of the country, Pilsner Urquell is about the only Czech beer that I see, always found it to be tasty. Did you enjoy the food as well? I hope you post some pics in one of the threads.

Pilsner Urquell is popular there also, at least based on what I observed. The food was great. Both beer and food are relatively inexpensive. Lots of pork, but duck and chicken are popular too. The Europeans know how to cook duck - I had it several times. Here’s a picture of my meal at a restaurant in Prague called simply “Pork’s”. It’s a roasted pork knuckle served with potatoes, sauerkraut, sautéed onions and mustard. And of course, beer.

I’ll post some pictures elsewhere of the amazing buildings, bridges, museums, etc.
