1926 Schrade Automobile Knife

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

1926 Schrade Automobile Knife

I found this knife at a pawn shop with a bunch of junk knives. It was interesting and when I saw the Schrade Cut Co. Walden NY tang stamp I was intrigued. I paid $5 for it and headed home. I thought it was a weird variation of a camp knife as what I expected to be a can opener blade was something else entirely. I finally found info on it by doing a Google Picture search. The only result was Page 10 of a 1926 Schrade Catalog. It identifies it as an Automobile knife. This one has the solid nickel-silver handles, #9039 GSIL.
Does anyone have any additional information about this knife ? Was this the only year they made them? I believe it is a rare piece since I have never seen one before and cannot find a photo of one anywhere. It is going in a display case. I live in NYS and love the history of these old knives.

The one wrench is for the valve on acetylene headlights on early automobiles. I don't know about the other one. Oh! I see! For automobile tire chains! Very nice score! ::tu::

I was wondering what that might be for. The other is for Tire chains!. Makes sense. Thanks for the info!
