Old Timer 338T White scales

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Old Timer 338T White scales

Post by jpoland13 »

I have a Scrade USA 338T with white scales. Can't tell if they're delrin or maybe micarta. Can't find any information on this. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

That is a 33OT (for Old Timer) and absolutely not an 8 stamped on it.
Definitely Delrin, looks to be sun or chemically bleached.

Agreed. Rust has made it difficult to read the tang stamp, and the brown Delrin handles have faded to white.

A drop or two of 3 in 1 oil can help with delrin oxidation, but pretty much just in mild cases. Your scales are pretty far gone, but it couldn't hurt. Old Schrades also make for good rehandle candidates ::tu::

That's my Etsy store where I sell old knives and sometimes handmade knife accessories to support my knife habbit. Thanks for looking my friend. ::tu::

Nothing to add except, sharpen it up, oil the joints and put it in your pocket. It will be a good EDC.
