Whitetail are beautiful animals, someday I’ll get stateside and hunt them. A nice little rack on the wall in my house would be a real novelty.

I'm Australian, so lots of big game hunting but mostly introduced asian and european species such as red stag, sambar etc.

, like I said, y'all are are having a great season!
That big boy must have been the bossman, broke several of those tines defending his territory.

Grandson Maddox saw a bunch of deer this morning and again this afternoon. Several small bucks mingling with the does and fawns. He did get a glimpse of good antlers way back against the canal when it was time to quit. I'm proud and grateful he didn't pop one of the small bucks that were legal. He killed a nice deer up in Georgia a couple of weeks ago and said today they weren't shooters and the grateful side is we didn't have to skin one!

Thank you gdogg, for the comment! About 10 years ago, Maddox was going to sit in a shooting house with me and our plan was for him to kill a buck. On the way riding to the stand he said, "Granddaddy, I don't really want to kill a deer." I told him that's okay we'll just sit and watch this evening. All we saw was a Grey fox walk within 6 feet of our stand. Now he's picking and choosing since he killed a buck up in Georgia a few weeks ago.

Not exactly Outdoors Thread but kinda Outdoorsy are the Brides Amarillis plants. She picked them up at Costco and they are set in a plastic bulb. No real care is involved. No watering, etc. In just a short period of time they have grown and bloomed like crazy. When they kinda run outta blooms, she'll cut the plastic bulb away and plant them outdoors.
Hard to show the color real well with the light background but the last photo gives a good account of the color they put out.

Did a little camping over the weekend. Used an old washing machine tub as a "camp stove" and it worked out quite well. A shadow snuck up on me in the darkness and startled me and it turned out to be a kit fox (I shined my flashlight on him, and he was not bothered by it at all). I could not get to my camera in time, but I added a stock picture to show what he looked like. He was looking for scraps on the ground at the camp.

R&R, I had 13 Sauro cactus on a 1.25-acre property when I bought it 12 years ago. So far 5 have died off. The Sauro cactus can live up to 200 years, so there is defiantly a problem. When I go out to the desert to camp or hike/hunt etc... I see lots of sick Sauro cactus. Saguaro cacti are susceptible to several diseases, but the most significant threat is bacterial necrosis, caused by the bacterium Erwinia cracticid. So, I am hoping this does not turn out like the Chinese chestnut blight that was introduced into Europe and North America in the early 1900s. It killed an estimated four billion trees, in the US.

I'm hoping maybe modern technology can come up with something to save them

Our old barn is made from American Chestnut, and they don't (can't) make them like that anymore. It's interesting that American Chestnut trees still keep pushing up a hundred years later, but die before reaching a usable size.

Nice pictures as always. Always enjoy going to Arizona to see the older kids and seeing all the cactus. I am so a bit envious of all of you who get to hunt wild birds.
Only birds too hunt here anymore are club birds. Once upon a time I would wait for the snow to go out and track the wild Pheasants. I did get out yesterday. Had the club put out 4 birds for and I managed to track down a leftover. Perfect day for tracking and I shot much better than I normally do. Changed over to Improved cylinder yesterday. When I shoot the over under I shoot improved first modified second. Was shooting Modified cylinder last year in the Benelli. Destroyed a couple of Birds. That is why I changed for yesterday.

Great pictures and post Steve . A good friend was in Peoria last week doing the same thing on a pay to hunt farm . They seem to be the thing down by you . We still have many pheasant and partridge in the “ wild “ so to speak. Not uncommon to see them cruising along back country roads . Several times this year walking out to bow hunt would kick up a partridge or pheasant.
The Benelli shotgun was our father’s favorite bird gun . Man he could drop them birds with that old shotgun.
