Sheepsfoot Slipjoint with Jigged bone covers.

Hello all.
Got a new one to show you. I've had this about done for a few weeks but finally called it finished. I was planning on putting this up for sale but I really just am not happy with the pile side bone. All looked good until polishing and then some really light spots came out so I decided this one might stay with me. Other than that, it came out really good. I'm still trying to get the Jigging pattern right. I don't know how the old timers did it but i think they had some art mixed with magic! Anyways, let me know what you think. Comments and Critiques welcome.

I think that is a very handsome knife. Those light spots wouldn't bother me.

Thank you! There is just such a difference when I look at front the top or from the spine that it just bothers me lol.

Thank you. You know, I never liked sheepsfoot for years, I just didn't like the looks. Then I went to the Coast Guard and they issued us marlin spikes with a sheepsfoot and I fell in love with it. For every day jobs it's impossible to beat. I made my wife a knife with a sheepsfoot and she loves it.

Thank you Sir, I really do appreciate the comment. I know I am probably my own worst critic for sure but any knife I put my name on and a price tag I just want it to be the best that I can do. If the color variation would have just been on the sides themself, It wouldn't bother me as much but the contrast looking at it from the spine just doesn't settle well with me. To me it just looks like a lack of attention to detail and I know I can do better. I should have noticed it during the build but for some reason I didn't and once the buffer hit it, it really lightened up. I tried to dye it and no luck as it just wouldn't take. Its just another lesson, not a big deal. Here is what I'm talking about:

I've seen plenty of Case, GEC you name it come from the factory looking like that. Matching covers can be one of the most difficult things in the making of knives.

I agree and hear what you are saying but as a maker, I need to be better than factory, and fit and finish is one of those areas that makes a big difference.

Part of the reason I love custom knives is no two are identical as they would be if they were produced in a factory.

Thank you Sir. I really do appreciate the comments. My wife always says I'm to picky with my work but I want want to be the most picky of what i put out. I love knife making and learning. My goal is to always make the next knife better than the last. It definitely was a fun build and probably the best (in my eye) jigging that I've done. I'll use this as another lesson and also give me another knife I made to carry, use and confirm my quality is to expectations.

I think it looks great! However, I also agree with your assessment on the mismatched covers. Some buyers might not care, but most buyers of custom knives would probably have a problem with that.

Everything else looks really nice...the jigging, fit and finish, etc. Are those bolsters NS or SS?

Thanks! Bolsters, liners, shields and pins are all NS. I know NS scuffs easier than SS but to me it's just classic. I like how it patinas.

Thank you. I love the old jigged bone. My biggest issue is trying to make it look random without making it looks sloppy. Random is very difficult because my brain likes patterns lol. I was happy with this one though. I thought it came out nice.
