Do heater hunters hesitate on taking a shot?

Hesitate enough to get out of the truck

He dropped a little more than just his opinion!!! .... ... and the truth be told ... I need to spend some time practicing at the trap and skeet range ...
I sure am scaring a lot of birds... but NOT putting too many on the table...

The picture I posted last week of the 5 pheasant in one day. I must have been shooting out of my mind...
I still blame it on being lefty and shooting right handed guns.

From one Lefty to another (not-politically speaking of course), I blame it on the gun no matter what I am shooting! ... and ... when I AM shooting ... ... the sky above me resembles the airspace over Berlin... ... circa 1944 so most of my "kills" are due to cardiac complications and not lead poisoning....

The Lord blessed me with a wonderful evening in the woods. Got to watch a regular deer circus for about 50 minutes and all of a sudden all the deer started staring back in the pines. Looking with the binoculars, I spotted a good one back in the pines. White lookin' antlers in the dark woods at 4:50 pm. .243 to the rescue, the buck ran towards me and piled up out in the green field.
Drug him with the cart to the old oak tree and just now finished dressing him. 1st deer I've dressed without out my special helper, seems so strange and sad. Miss Joy's job was to take a few pictures and bring me a stainless steel bowl for the heart and liver and always had a cup of coffee ready when we got done.

Deer Circus almost every evening.

Appears he just broke the G3 on the right side, maybe I can see if I can find it where he piled up. He has several small stickers around the burrs on both sides.

40° right now, probably have to 1/4 him up and get him in the cooler in the morning.

Great to read that you got out and had a successful hunt . It’s interesting how when you watch the does and fawns they will show you where the older bigger bucks are and when they are approaching and from where . Thanks for sharing Philip, we know it’s been a tough year adjusting .

I was just reviewing and deleting some game camera pictures, when I came across this series that struck me as interesting. I have no idea what they were thinking and why they act or react the way they do. Y'all might find these interesting:

There always seems to be a boss doe and she rules the feeder. Watching from the shooting house I can't remember ever seeing that many ganged up around the feeder. They usually visit it 3 or 4 at a time and then go back out in the green field (oats) or browse in the pines wandering off out of sight.
I see it several times a year but haven't gotten game camera pictures of does boxing in several years, that's quite a sight when they try to overpower each other.

My brother and I went out pheasant hunting the week before Christmas. We didn’t shoot very well managed to get 3 of 7 I think.
Went out after Christmas and we managed to not let any birds we saw get away. My brothers dog is just about 3 years now. She has tamed a bit. My brother and I have had a couple of great hunts, looking forward to the rest of the season. Kind of cool even though it’s a club. We got a black and white pheasant last week. Well Bella caught the White Hen, that can happen with the flushing dogs. I know that is why people don’t like them.

Steve and Phil . That sounds like a good time . Brothers and a dog outdoing what they enjoy doing. All we’ve ever seen around here are the typical ring neck pheasant. Never seen a black and white one. Great pics . Thank you for sharing.

I'm a little behind checking on the Outdoorsman Thread.
Unk, that's a fine deer! I can't tell for sure, is he a 7 point? Looking at those hind legs, he has probably been busy.
LKSKNIVES, pheasant hunting looks like it would be a lot of fun! We don't have pheasants in our part of creation, never had the opportunity to be on a pheasant hunt. A lot more meat on one of those birds compared to Mourning Doves. The only down side for me would be that white stuff Bella is sitting in!

Yesterday's warm rain must have brought the deer out in our neighborhood. 2 nicely racked bucks and 5 doe. Can you count all 5? Enhanced the pictures to make them more visible. I have a video of the bucks but haven't uploaded it to YouTube.

This is a picture taken from our tall shooting house Sunday afternoon, deer pouring out of the woods to graze on green oats. In and out, back and forth, hard to keep up with how many come out during a particular hunt. Same story yesterday afternoon and always one or two young bucks chasing the does and yearlings through the oats, the pines, back into the thick woods and back into the open, again and again. Great entertainment for this old man. Hopefully we'll be there when Bambi's daddy comes visiting. One of the good ones made an appearance last Friday afternoon, just didn't present an ethical shot.

What is the table fare of whitetail like compared to other deer species you have?

Haven't figured out how many points this deer had, there are stickers going several directions. The rack is really weird, maybe 8 inches wide. I will measure it and compare it to another normal rack when I get ready to quarter him up. Had this deer on camera last year with the same configuration, just not as tall.
