Currently working on 5 knives when I have the time ... finished this one for a client today...
My first attempt at a clip point with a swedge. He did not want an edge on this one ... just rustic for display in his cabinet.

Thanks Zach ... I did twist this one better. Made a tool with handles opposing each other, with a cap in the center, to go over the butt end to do the twist with. Much cleaner look and easier to do also. I have not forgotten about you Man. You are still on my list.

Excellent work, CCC, I love the blade shape and handle. I made a half horseshoe knife at the SMKW Co-Op about 15 years ago and it was a fun experience. Wish I had the space and tools.

The twist is one full turn. When forging, I allowed 3.5" from the butt for the handle, which results in a 4" + handle.

Yes, that one looks great. Does anyone know what steel was used in those spikes?

Appreciate it OC! The steel has a low carbon content.
- This one is marked MC meaning mild or medium carbon, which is 0.06 - 0.20 % carbon.
- Some spikes are marked HC meaning higher carbon, which is 0.20 - 0.30 % carbon.
- The best RR spikes are 1078 steel with 0.78 % carbon. This is what is needed for a knife that will see serious use.

Thank you. Yes I did start out making fixed blades along with John from Redmeadow knives. We kind of tackled and worked our way through the beginning of knife making together. Slip joints were always my goal but it took a while to get the nerve up to try one. After I made my first one I was hooked and mostly have only made them since.

I didn't know about Redmeadow Knives ... excellent pieces he has made ... thanks for sharing! Many people coming into my shop/knife store have asked if I made folders. My reply is I have just started this journey ... maybe some day, when I know what I am doing. But three years ago, the same people were asking if I made "any knives". Last year, they convinced me to take the step I am at now. For now, folders are at a distant future.

Just jump in and and start making..the worst that can happen is you ruin some steel...I've got buckets of those lessons lol.
