Farcebook strikes again

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Farcebook strikes again

Post by zzyzzogeton »

As of yesterday morning, my farcebook account has been permanently disabled due to "a violation of the terms of service" whatever the hell that means.

For the last 3 months, the only things I have posted was ID information in a couple of knife forums, comments in a few leatherworking and knife/hawk throwing groups, a post or three in a Texas Navy page, the word "Here" in TAMU posts of former students passing away and one post advising that what was being reported on a page was false, with documented references.

I logged onto farcebook at noonish yesterday to check out what the lunch of the day was at the local grocery store and I couldn't get logged on, getting a message that my account had been disabled for the specified reason.

I then looked in my emails and found that at 1058 I had received an email stating that my account had been suspended for the "violation" and I had 30 days to appeal the suspension.

8 minutes later, at 1106, I had received a second message that my appeal had been denied and I was permanently suspended.

There was never an explanation about what had allegedly occurred, and what appears to be a bogus appeals methodology.

So, I guess I'm gone from farcebook and turkeyburg won't be getting any click revenue from me any longer.

We don’t do Fakebook. Our son who is an ordained church pastor has served overseas as a missionary for several years. He was posting updates on his ministry activities on Facebook, until learning Facebook was “shadow banning” his posts. Shadow banning means he could see his own posts but no one else could. Facebook never told him they were shadow banning him - he found out by accident when friends asked him why he wasn’t posting. Apparently Facebook arbitrarily found his posts offensive, in their opinion, so they censored him without telling him. His requests for explanation about why he was being shadow banned went unanswered.

Since then he has a blog site and rarely posts anything on Fakebook.

The primary reason I have been on farcebook is that many of the groups I was with back before farcebook existed transitioned their info portals from their own websites and blogs over to farcebook because of cost.

No cost of maintaining a website, no domain names to bother with, no server space requirements, relatively quick speed at which people could see new material, the ability to get non-members of your group to find out about you and support/join your group.

Those were always positive reasons for shifting over. The cost was autonomy. Now your pages are subject to censorship and overbearing control, but the groups have no financial incentive to move away.

Since all the private websites have gone the way of the dodo, I can no longer interact with those folks and they will not know why I am no longer participating. FB was the only method of communication with other group members now.

Oh well......

I'm with Redrider the boss has a account( always getting hacked with offensive post like she sent them) her good friends often tell her it looks like she been hacked again, she post very little mostly in answer to direct questions. I benefit from her being on there some because I get info on some kinfolks and friends and such. I was on a golf forum that went to fb and I left it and a couple military forums that went that way. I missed the guys for a while but got over it.
AAPKs the only forum I'm on anymore. ::handshake::

^^^ agreed. Are you certain it was YOU posting, Facebook is a primary vector for hackers being so simple to crack into and many not really paying much attention to accounts.I mean if they get your email, a click is all it takes to get in (so annoyingly Stoopid on FBs part). I wouldn't say a great chance, but also not a small chance, that your account was infiltrated and others caused the violation. Sounds like some activity in play and admins "could" identify IP addresses if you were really interested.
