Remember all those who started the whole thing.....the American Revolution soldiers.
After all...if it wasn't for them...we don't know where we'd be as a country right now.

This forever young man l went to school with, he was a freshman when I was a senior, fine athlete his brother was in my class.

Staff Sargent Drewey was our motor pool Sargent, Lost his life trying to get his men to safety during a mortar attack.

Catfish directly in front of me was one of my best friends. He passed about 25 years or so ago. When I retired in 2004 I started trying to get in touch with a few that I was really close to, it broke my heart to find his obituary. The dude in the t-shirt was in the como and ammo sections, he gave me TL-29 that I toted the rest of my tour and brought home with me. I've no idea to his or the other young man's status. I think of these guys alot, not just Memorial day.

A couple that I was able to get in touch with and have had several reunions with have passed in the last couple of years. We will get together with their widows and another couple in a couple of days Lord willing. My buddy is in the hospital so I don't know how that will shake out.

There is several that I knew well on this wall that have lost their lives to the part of the VN war that keeps on giving.

Thank you for what you did for this country. I am not quite old enough to remember, born in 1963. Thank you so much for sharing. I am sorry for the people and friends you have lost do to the VN war.
I lost a very good hunting friend of mine a couple of years ago. Cancer he said it was the agent Orange. I did not realize his service until the whole military funeral service and burial in a somewhat local military cemetery. I know he was messed up when he came back. He found our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and did well after that. I do miss him.
Little side note
He was cremated and requested that part of his ashes be loaded into shotgun shells. His wife and one of the gentlemen at our club loaded him up and a whole bunch of us sent him down range with his wife present of course.

Thank all you courageous guys who fought for this great country. My uncle fought in Vietnam, 101st airborne and came back with demons. He drank for many years to forget. I remember doing an essay in high school and asked my aunt first if I could ask him about it. She said please don’t. He never talked about his time there ever. I respect the hell out of you all. Thank you for your service.

Thank you to all veterans; those here and those that have been called home. Because of your sacrifices, I have the right to express my opinions, the freedom to worship (or not), the ability to vote and participate in a self-governing society and protection against tyranny and abuse of power.

I try to avoid saying "Happy Memorial Day" because to me the holiday is a solemn, sacred day of remembrance for military personnel who died in service, not a celebratory occasion. I feel like using the word "happy" can be deeply insensitive to military families and veterans who are mourning the loss of loved ones. YMMV
