I found a pallet today in the warehouse where I work. The wood wasn't the usual pine. I sanded down a board. It looks like mahogany to me, what do you think? Can I use it for handles?

I cannot identify mahogany from the grain, but it looks like it would make beautiful knife handles!

If the pallet originated in South America, it could be mahogany. When I worked in a general equipment rental business (Taylor Rental Center), I had a customer rent floor sanding equipment to sand a mahogany floor he had salvaged from South American pallets. He planed and tongue & grooved the boards himself, but didn't own floor sanding equipment

Yesterday I finished another kitchen knife. In the basement, the radio only picks up the national radio, and on Saturday afternoons there is a political overview program and folk music. I am not usually a big fan of folk music, but in recent years I have started to appreciate it.
Here's a song I heard on the radio yesterday, and then found on YouTube. The song is about Angel Voivoda, a Bulgarian revolutionary and outlaw from the mid-19th century.

— Do you have a tall house, Angel?
Do you have a tall house, voivoda?
— My house is a green beech tree, rebels!
My house is a green beech tree, heroes!
— Do you have an old mother, Angel?
Do you have an old mother, voivoda?
— My mother is the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina), rebels!

— Do you have an old white-haired father, Angel?
Do you have an old white-haired father, voivoda?
— My father is a French sabre, rebels!
My father is a French sabre, heroes!
— Do you have dear sisters, Angel?
Do you have dear sisters, voivoda?
— My sisters are a pair of cartridge pouches, rebels!

— Do you have a dear bride, Angel?

— My bride is the long rifle, rebels!

— Do you have little children, Angel?
Do you have little children, voivoda?
— My children are small bullets, rebels!
Wherever I send them, they do the job, heroes!

Thank you, John!

By the way, the video was made with the help of an association of Bulgarian history enthusiasts. They often hold meetings and historical reenactments. All the weapons in the video are authentic from the 19th century.
And the singer is cute... :D
