The Texas Sage, aka Texas Barometerbush, has started blooming. By tomorrow a lot more blooms will appear. Their blooming isn’t seasonal but more weather related. They’re evergreen and may unexpectedly bloom at any time of year. It’s been unusually humid here for a few days, which sometimes triggers blooming. (Hence the name “Barometerbush”). Rain also sometimes triggers blooming, often within 24-48 hours after the rain. It’s a native plant - this one is just a plain old native version but they’ve developed varieties which can have really showy blooms.

Like the song says: “The sage in bloom is like perfume, Deep in the heart of Texas”.

This doodad was called an ice cube orchid. I gave to the wife for Mother's Day 2025, and she took it to work. It finally put on some buds a couple weeks ago. She's kinda proud of it ...
