John Thomas "Tommy" Carr (carrmillus) - Gone But Never Forgotten

This forum topic is intended to honor the life and legacy of John Thomas "Tommy" Carr, known on AAPK as carrmillus who was active from 11/14/10 until 03/29/23 after making 6,293 posts during 12.38 years with us. The link(s) below are to memorialize the loss of carrmillus but other links may exist within AAPK that personify the contributions made in the forums. MEMBER MEMORIAL from Dale Vincent (Orvet): One of the nice things about AAPK is the friends you make. You can buy, sell, and trade knives, but in that process, you come in contact with people. It is inevitable that some of those people leave a lasting impression on you. I have met and became friends with many such people here on AAPK.

One such person was JT "Tommy," Carr, known here on AAPK as "carrmillus." Tommy was from Tupelo Mississippi and was an avid lover of Camillus knives. Tommy was a retired draftsman. He told me he retired when they insisted he use a CAD program. While he did use a computer and posted frequently on AAPK, he was not easy with it. He never did take to digital photography. He would take knife pictures, have them developed and send them to me so that I could scan them and post them on AAPK for him. I tried to explain to him that digital cameras were easier to use than the SLR he was used to, but he didn't want anything to do with them!

Somewhere in the Tommy's posts here on AAPK, are pictures of a Camillus knife display in an old hardware store in Tupelo, Mississippi. Tommy's granddad carried Camillus knives and so did Tommy!

Tommy had a 1956 Thunderbird that was his pride and joy. You can find lot of Tommy's posts in the Camillus forum, and if I recall correctly he frequented the First Cup Diner forum.

Tommy retired from AAPK on April 29, 2023. He got rid of his internet connection at that time, though I called him from time to time to see how he was doing. His eyesight was getting bad and I think that's why he stop going online. He knew I liked the Camillus #72 so he sent me a brand new one from his collection. The Camillus #72 and a Schatt & Morgan cotton sampler he sent me are treasured pieces my collection.

I last talked to Tommy in early 2024. I was so busy with family obligations, three deaths in the family, health problems and three shoulder surgeries in the last 13 months that I haven't had much time to spend on the forum. I'm feeling better now, so I thought I would reach out and call Tommy today. I called his number, but it was disconnected. I did a search of his name and found his obituary. Tommy passed peacefully on May 3rd, 2025.

Tommy was a friend, I always enjoyed our conversations. And a fellow 72 lover. Sorry to read of his passing.

I had the privilege of meeting Tommy in person, at his home, as the wife and I passed through Tupelo in May of 2018.
Somewhere here on AAPK there are pictures of that meeting, including his prize Thunderbird.
He and is lovely wife were gracious hosts. His wife and mine hit it off immediately.
That brief meeting is a treasured memory for me.
