Inherited a knife

I inherited a knife that was my grandfathers. I'm not sure what company produced it, or what country it came from. I'm looking to restore it, but not sure the best way to, or where to start. any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I can't read the tang stamp in that third picture. Can you tell us what it says please?

prolly says Pakistan, (country of origin)
there are members here who do that sort of
thing very well. off the top of my very sleepy
head you can find and contact muskrat man,
or orvet. They will be able to discuss options
available with you. Good luck and post a pic
of the knife after you are finished with it!!!

It says Payistan, or Pavistan. If it did say Pakistan the bottom part of the k has worn off completely, leaving no trace of it. sorry pictures are so bad, had to take with my phone, due to a bad memory card for my camera. looking at it again it definitely looks like Pavistan.

You know what...if it was your Grandfathers, I would leave it exactly as it is.....kind of like you were sitting at the kitchen table with him, and you needed a knife to trim something and he says, "here, use this"...and he reaches into his pocket and hands it to you for a moment of use.

I know where your coming from Diligence, and appreciate your input! I think this knife was one he had lost in his shop and I am really only looking to get some of the pitting and stains out, not going for a new knife look, I would just like to give it some shine and a little bit of its splendor back.
