JMO I would try a brass or yellow color background.
This would bring out more color I see in the handle.
A nice contrast with an accsent.

I can't say enough about Kaleb's work; this guy is good. 
But if blue is not your color 
how about brown? To me the best thing about them; besides looking fantastic is they are mine.
