Probably what led to my fascination with both Science Fiction and Mystery. Asimov was a master of both.

Even better were his presentations of various sciences for folks who would have otherwise been too intimidated to consider the ideas involved. The man was a master at presenting material in chunks that an interested layman could understand while at the same time making them want to learn more about the subject. I'm currently a grad student in education (special ed, actually), and while I study my textbooks to pass the classes, I study Asimov to learn how to teach.

Hmmm, may have also been the basis for my having been a teacher. Good thought.

Wow!
I think I read I, Robot in the 5th grade!
It wasn't my favorite Asimov book so I really never got into his Robot series.
Then I discovered Robert Heinlein and was hooked on Sci Fi for life!

These stories about how members arrived at their AAPK names is quite interesting.

I got the nickname johnny twoshoes on a trip to Montana, I was pretty dark at the time from workin' out in the sun, so everybody said I looked like an indian (Native AMERICAN), the guy we were staying with couldn't remember my real name

so he just called me johnny twoshoes.

Many years ago I heard of or talked to (I don't remember now) a fellow with the last name of Chance. For a while after that I kept thinking of first names that you could put with that last name, like Random or Second or Last, etc... I guess Random seemed like the least 'obviously not a real name' of those and that's the one I remembered. I always thought it would be interesting to introduce yourself to someone with a name like that - "Hi, my name's Random, Random Chance. And this is my partner Dubious Intention"

No real history or deep meaning or anything here, just a kind of interesting, oddball sounding name.

Jerry is the nickname for my real first name and "d" the first letter of my last name. It wouldn't be appropriate to explain the meaning of the numbers on a public forum but you may be able to figure it out for yourself. It's not really very difficult.

I have a 1993 Mustang Cobra. I met someone at a cruise-in and we were talking cars, he was a member of a Mustang club.
He asked for my phone# to get a hold of me for future events. When he put my number in his cell phone, he listed me as CobraBill. My name is Bill, drive a Cobra, it kinda stuck.

I shot a Roosevelt bull elk a few years back that measured 268 points in Boone & Crocket. He got me into the Oregon records book. I thought it would be a good username that no one else already had. So 268bull it is!

Gunstock Jack is my Single Action Shooting Society alias. In SASS everyone has to pick an alias. I took GJ 'cause I collect the knife pattern and it sounds sorta cowboy. Then people started askin' if I made gun stocks. I guess cowboys don't know knife patterns. Anyway, I just had to make a couple pair of stocks to complete the circle. I used the same handle here 'cuz it just made sense. Use it on the bay and email too.

I have a buddy who had called me Philco for years now. He has done it so much that others have started doing so as well.

I never really had a nickname (other than that) or much imagination either, so.......philco it is.

Those two are Beretta/Uberti's in .357 mag. I Also shoot a pair of old model Vaqueros in .44 magnum. The .357's are lighter and easier to handle with one hand, as I shoot with both guns out of their holsters when the stage is set up with pistols 'back to back'. That's a great lookin' range, Ramrod. I see yer dad shoots black powder. Cowboy Action Shooting is a hoot! Women and kids get involved too.

JR; The stock material is actually some redwood burl that I had stabilized. Pretty wild, huh? In the sunlight it is incredible. I think it goes nicely with the case hardened frames. I had a large piece of it, so I cut it up and traded a bunch to Hukk. Whaddya think, Hukk? Have you used any of it for any handle material?

I got the escutheon screw holes too deep, but I'll fix that later. Click the pict for a close-up.
